Mission & Service Engagement Trips

STAFF VOLUNTEERING POLICY

Employees are encouraged to actively engage in Mission & Service Trips. These are Trinity-sponsored and supported trips – bothnational and international – that occur regularly within a given calendar year.

It is Trinity’s policy to make the opportunity for participation in such trips equally available to all employees who have completed a full year of service and who are performing at a “3” performance level or above, meeting or exceeding all
job expectations.

To participate in mission & service trips, the following will occur:

• Interest meetings will be conducted to allow potential participants the ability to explore the possibility of involvement.

• Before applying to be considered for a mission or service trip, the employee will need to talk with his or her manager
to see if the timing of such a trip will be compatible with departmental and cluster workload and work objectives.

• Staff will be asked to take Mission & Service Trips using vacation time and personal days due within a given calendar year. (For employees with minimal vacation days available due to level and years of service, managers and cluster leaders will work with them to accommodate this circumstance when possible.)

• Employees will be expectedto pay for their own expenses associated with mission trips. Should finances become a barrier to participation, Trinity will work to accommodate this circumstance whenever possible.

• Finally, participants will be selected based on criteria developed by the Nominating Committee. Recommendations on who will be invited to join a mission or service trip will be made by the Nominating Committee. Decisions will be based on criteria that will be related specifically to the nature of the trip and the work that will be required. Specific criteria will include cross-cluster representation, diversity objectives, appropriate numbers of staff and congregation, the inclusion of new participants and, where relevant, the right mix of experience, skills and expertise.

An important part of every Mission & Service Trip will be mandatory involvement in team building, pre-trip learning and reflection, including assigned readings, and post-trip reflections, presentations and briefings.
