MASTER LOCKSMITH

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible installing, renovating or repairing all doors, closures and related hardware and for overseeing and maintaining a working fire and security system to have a safe, secure environment for students personnel and visitors. Also operates heavy equipment and any other way deemed necessary by the supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Approves and issues keys requests.

Assigns keys to personnel, assigns core and core numbers to doors and to maintain records of these actions.

Instructs key managers in the proper policies and methods of maintaining a working key inventory.

Repairs and renovations of all doors, cabinets, stall doors in system to insure proper use.

Evaluates request for changes in the master key system.

Checks for proper fire alarm uses and maintenance.

Reviews incoming projects with Plant Manager that pertains to the locksmith profession.

Assists the Parts Manager in detailed description of parts and estimations for purchase

Maintains an updated Master Key Inventory in the computer with monthly reports.

Maintains a good working attitude and appearance with all personnel.

Surveys and logs locations of all doors, locks, keys and hardware in the entire system.

Investigates breeches in security and remedy any problems.

Investigates possible problems in fire system.

Supports all the other departments with equipment operation use.

Assists the transportation foreman in up to date situations in the preventive maintenance of the heavy equipment.

Assists in the planning and execution of snow removal and other extreme weather situations.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the locksmith trade; knowledge of fire alarm systems; ability to fix low voltage locks, closures, and panic hardware; ability to run computer programs on lock hardware; ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma. National Accredited Locksmith course. Five years experience as a locksmith.Trained as a certified 9-ton forklift operator. Trained in CPR arid First Aid.

A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, repetitive motions. Ability to lift 70 pounds. Involves exposure to potentially dangerous chemicals, gases, and other materials necessary to any construction project. Climbs ladders, works off scaffolding, and works with high voltage.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid Virginia Driver's License.
