Global Studies – Grade 9

Mrs. White/Mrs. Conrad

Welcome to Global 9! This course will cover topics from the earliest of civilizations through the French Revolution (10,000 BC – 1789). The major themes that we will be studying this year are Geography, Religions, Ancient Civilizations, the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Protestant Reformation, Absolute Monarchs, the Enlightenment, and finally the French Revolution. You will see how different cultures have interacted with each other and how this can affect their own development.

  2. Be on time.
  3. Respect each other.
  4. Take responsibility for your actions.
  5. Give 110% at all times.

If you have a difficult time following these rules, the consequences will be:

  3. Phone call to parent or guardian.

Supplies:

  • Three ring notebook (2” preferably)
  • Pens/pencils
  • Loose leaf paper

Grades

Your quarter grade will include homework assignments, in-class assignments, projects, tests, and class participation.

Homework (20%) – Maps, textbook assignments, worksheets, newspaper articles, journal entries, etc. Each assignment will be collected for 10 points; some assignments will be worth more.

In-class Assignments (20%)– Group work, journal entries, reaction papers, etc. will be graded according to their magnitude.

Projects (20%) – Posterboard presentations, oral reports, newspapers, museum projects, notebooks, powerpoint presentations, etc.

Quizzes/Tests (20%) – At any time, a quiz may be given; unit tests will follow each unit upon completion. We will provide you with a study guide for each unit test.

Class participation (20%) – A class participation grade will be given each day to each student. You will receive 2 points each day or 10 points a week. This may not sound like a lot, but do the math. By the end of the quarter you will have a total out of 100 points being weighed at 20% of your grade. To get these 2 points you must be present in class, you must be attentive and you must participate. If you are disruptive in any way, you lose all points for the day.

NOTES:

*Your final exam is a local exam given at the end of the year. The format of this exam will model that of the Regents exam you will take for Global 10.

**Weare here everyday after school to help you if you fall behind.

***Remember – the NYS Regents Global 10 Final Exam is cumulative of both ninth and tenth grade material. Save your stuff!
