Parent Newsletter # 7 – 11/3

·  Thank you to Inga VanSiclen, Alison Hurlock, Leisa Tomcheck and the entire Glenfield PTA for running another fantastic Black and Orange Dance. Record attendance (450!) was set and a great time was had by all.

·  It’s official. The Glenfield PTA has set an all-time record for membership! We now have over 300 families! Special thanks to our Membership Drive Chairpersons Alisa Langhorn and Melissa Engel.

·  Thank you to all parents who participated in the Innisbrook Gift-wrap Fundraiser. Our top seller and iPad winner was 6th grader Caprice Pierre!

·  Reminder: The Montclair Public Schools will be closed tomorrow and Friday.

·  Marking Period I ends on Friday, 11/12. Unless they are enrolled in a full year course, students will begin their new period 9 elective class on Monday, 11/15.

·  From the Rogate Team (Mr. McCarthy, Mrs. Sorensen and Mrs. Parker.) Our Earth Science trip to Mystic, Conn. was a smashing success! We escorted the students through the Seaport and aboard the Oceanographic Ship out into L.I. Sound. We visited the Aquarium and the Dinosaur Place as well. No matter what they did – dissecting a squid, sampling plants and animals from the deck, digging for gems or looking for a buried dinosaur skeletons – our students were enthusiastic and delightful. The guides, shop keepers and scientists all commented on the depth and breadth of their knowledge, sophistication, manners and wonderful behavior. Thank you for all your support and encouragement.

·  Looking Ahead: Glenfield’s Winter Concert has been moved to December 21st at 7:00pm.

Kids Corner: Congratulations to Tatiana Edell (House Belmonte). Her PDA U13 Soccer Team won the State Cup last weekend!

Kids Corner II: Congratulations to Lindsey Ewertsen (House Gill), Amanda Romano and Lucia Surraco (House Miller). Their Colchesters U14 Soccer Team won the State Cup last weekend!

Kids Corner III: Girl Scout Troop 189, featuring Glenfield students (Amya Dumay, Michaela Keil, Stella Balsamini, Kelly Freedman, Autumn Manche, Alison Mortimer and Giovanna Mullen) will be starting a Recycling Drive and would like the entire Glenfield community to join in. They are asking that students and parents recycle items (cell phones, inkjet cartridges, juice pouches, etc.) that would normally find their way into a landfill. Receptacles will be strategically placed in the building; this is part of Glenfield’s continuing effort to “Go Green.”
