POSITION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

  1. POSITION ANALYSIS:

The Special Learning Needs Coordinator will provide pedagogical leadership and have responsibility for the development, implementation and evaluation of all learning interventions in the College, ensuring protocols and procedures are adhered to and strategies to support the individual learning of all special needs students are being incorporated into classrooms.

  1. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  2. Liaise with the Director of Middle School Learning, and Heads of English and Maths to develop and implement procedures for the regular testing and assessment of students to identify individual learning support needs required in literacy and numeracy
  3. Work with the literacy and numeracy teachers to determine needs of funded and non-funded students and ensure they are equipped to provide these students with effective literacy and numeracy strategies in the classroom which will improve learning outcomes
  • Organise regular meetings of staff teaching funded and non-funded special needs students to discuss their specific needs and progress, develop goals and strategies and to address issues as they arise
  • Liaise with Heads of Learning and teachers to ensure that work is appropriately modified, or accommodations made, to address the student’s specific needs
  • Provide staff professional learning to support teachers in employing accommodations within the classroom and the differentiation and modification of work for students with special learning needs
  • Work with the Learning Support Team Coordinator to:
  • Develop a timetable supporting funded and non-funded PSD students in the classroom
  • Attend SSG meetings as required and liaise with the relevant Sub-school Directors to determine what needs to be put in place to support individual funded and non-funded student needs
  • Liaise with visiting teachers and enable them to effectively support their students
  • Complete funding submissions for newly assessed students and make referrals to health professionals required for completion of funding submissions
  • Identify the professional needs for Learning Support staff and make applications for professional development through the Business Manager or Principals
  • Ensure the integration students smooth transition into the Senior School by meeting with the Senior School Director of Students, Director of Pathways and relevant House Leader in Term 4.
  • Work with the Director of Pathways to support integration students with work experience, further education and pathways
  • Work with the Middle and Senior School Sub-Schools to:
  • Support House Leaders in writing ILPs based on SSG meetings and communicate specific goals and strategies to teachers of funded and non-funded integration students
  • represent the interests of identified funded and non-funded special needs studentsat sub-school meetings
  • assist in the development and maintenance of special programs for Middle and Senior School students to address specific learning needs: eg. organisation, time management, study skills.
  • to monitor continuous funding for student that complete VCE over 3 years.
