Glen Brown is an accomplished leader, manager and communicator who has been working at senior levels in the not-for-profit sector for over 25 years. For the past fifteen years he has headed a consulting practice specializing in management, facilitation, strategic planning, organizational development, communications and policy development in the health and social service sectors. Prior to that, he served as the senior manager at the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE).

As a volunteer, he has been as a leader and board member in many organizations including the Canadian AIDS Society, the 519 Church Street Community Centre, the Wellesley Institute and currently Greenpeace Canada.

He has served as Interim Executive Director of the AIDS Committee of Toronto, Pride Toronto,Street Health, the Centre for Inquiry, the Ralph Thornton Community Centre and Prisoners with HIV/AIDS Support Action Network.

Senior Management

  • Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE). Director of Programs and Services, General Manager. 1996 to 1999. As senior manager I led the transition from a local agency to a national, bilingual provider of phone, internet, print and in person HIV treatment information during a time of dramatic changes in the treatment landscape. CATIE is now Canada’s largest national HIV organization.
  • AIDS Committee of Toronto. Interim Executive Director. 2008-2009. Served as Executive Director for six month transition period for Canada’s largest local AIDS Service Organization. Maintained stability, improved communications and partnerships, delivered financial surplus well in excess of targets.
  • Pride Toronto. Interim Executive Director. 2011. Led one of the world’s most successful LGBT Pride Festivals, and helped the organization emerge from a financial and political crisis. Restored credibility, improved partnerships, and delivered a major financial surplus.
  • Street Health. Interim Executive Director. 2012-2013. Served six month term leading the agency which provides nursing, mental health, harm reduction and advocacy for homeless and under-housed people. Negotiated pay-equity settlement. Led the search and hiring process for the permanent Executive Director.
  • Centre for Inquiry. Interim National Director. 2013. Provided transitional leadership for national organization promoting science and reason.
  • Ralph Thornton Community Centre. Interim Executive Director. 2014. Provided transitional leadership, lead the hiring process for management and Executive Director positions, and helped stabilize the agency.
  • Prisoners with AIDS Support Action Network (PASAN). Interim Executive Director 2015. Provided transitional leadership, conducted an in-depth financial assessment, led the hiring process for the new Executive Director.

I served first as Director of Programs and Services and then as Acting General Manager for CATIE. Both positions reported directly to the Board of Directors. In both positions I played a leading role in planning, evaluation, human resources management, financial management, communications, organizational development and liaison with partner agencies, funders, media and governments.

I directed the communications initiatives of this provincial body representing 12,000 university faculty members. My role included developing communication and advocacy strategies, media relations, policy analysis, and writing and editing newsletters and other communication tools.
