EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Kenya falls under the low resource countries in the world and negative issues abound that affect the larger populace and this includes:Crime,Prostitution,Alcohol and drug substance abuse, Gender-Based Violence,urbanization,drainage,deforestation etc. and that is the reason that we started this organization that will enable us to impart skills to young children through the lens of the camera and document the above ill.We are also finalizing on a street photo exhibition that will give the child photographers an opportunity to exhibit their photos and our motto has always been to dwell mostly on the solutions rather than the problems, and so we will exhibit the solution to these problems to find lasting solutions and this can only be successful once we secure premises that will make these children be comfortable as they carry their duties in the arts industry.
It is a fact that the children who include:refugees,street children and those at the children homes have been victims of the above said ills and their personal ordeals really moved us, they have witnessed first-handexperiences, some if not all have borne the brunt of abusive fathers who have raped or assaulted themphysically. Most of these children have grown up to be some of the most wanted criminals and engaging in dangerous activities and so by bringing them together under our photography initiative dubbed “through my very eyes” this will indeed change their perception and be the communities change makers. The building up of the premises will indeed provide them with a refuge where they can exchange ideas with their peers and avoid them from indulging in crime related activities.
Our initiative seeks to enlighten the people and the community at large about their surrounding by:educating, informing and entertaining. Through our THROUGH MY VERY EYES INITIATIVE we plan to do a street photo exhibition whereby we will mount photographs on frames and invite people of goodwill iemedia, private sector, opinion leaders, religious leaders and women organizations to attend these exhibitions and support these children and the young people and in turn these children will have a role of passing crucial messages through the lens of the camera and later on tabulating the said on a community newspaper therefore offering crucial lessons to the entire community on how they can change the community through the finding of local solutions to local problems. At the end of the day, these children have curriculums that they have to abide by and so the proceeds from these exhibitions will go a long way in supporting their:education,shelter and food as well as making the project sustainable and also for them when they grow up they will make a career out of photography and raise their families.
GIZZIM YOUTH GROUP is a community initiative situated in Githurai and founded in the year 2013 and duly registered in February 2015.Our aim has always been to empower the community to self-reliance.
OBJECTIVES
To create awareness on emerging issues within the society.
To promote moral values and national values amongst the youth.
To develop and nurture talents among the youth for self -reliance and social-economic empowerment.
The THROUGH MY VERY EYES INITIATIVE was launched in 2015 in GITHURAI. The aim was to create awareness and offer local solutions to local problems through the lens of the camera. We as Gizzim Youth Group intend to be conducting the photography exhibition on a yearly basis to continue instilling positive values to the children and the young people and to the masses at large and encourage them to be proactive.
We are situated atGithurai where we have a smalloffice that we use to offer editing classes to the young ones and also deliberate on the day to day agendas and for you assisting us secure bigger premises will go a long way in encouraging other children to join our cause, currently we are accommodating 300 children and we are looking forward to accommodating 700 more once we get access to a larger space. We have been hosted to TV stations to talk more about photography with the children and why we are doing photography and what we intend to realize at the end and also our activities have been highlighted on the local dailies.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
In recent times, with the problems that have been bedeviling our society a higher risk have been made possible by lack of information and exposure to air their views and that is why through our photography and community newspaper project, we seek to address some of these ills and outline their solutions.
Some facts about the effects of photography in our area of jurisdiction:
The number of children and young people we bring on board has over the months increased.
Our planned photography exhibition is drawing a lot of attention from major media houses locally.
Our photography lessons will be a way of doing away with illiteracy,crime,alcohol and substance abuse,prostitution,unwanted pregnancies and idleness.
Every month we admit 5 new students who are drawn from the streets, refugee camps and children's homes as well as difficult backgrounds.
Over 100% of the children are photography literate.
The training is exclusive, easy and takes a short time. The training helps to evaluate the kid’s capability to grasp what has been taught to them. The evaluation marks a new chapter because at that point its critical.
We hope to offer as many childrenas we can the chance to tell their own stories through the lens of the camera and how they can come up with solutions. Our use of the THROUGH MY VERY EYES INITIATIVE is advised by the fact that socialmatters are shunned by the society due to how the issue is presented. Photography is very appealing and by using it, we create a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to address social issues,we will indeed create an environment that will make it easy for all to access media services, entertain, inform and educate.
Through our office at Githurai, we have access to qualified personnel, photographers and editors whom we have been working with. With this kind of backup we will be able to have the right people on the ground with us for the event. We are also in partnership with a number of community youth groups; church groups, the local camera groups associations, and various youth leaders who will offer intellectual support.

Our staff and volunteers will be handy to take the community through the current situation of the community through the photographs mounted and engage them in conversations that will definitely help the entire community realize milestone changes. We hope to inculcate the goodwill message to the rest of the community and encourage them to be goodwill ambassadors.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
The initiative is dubbed ‘THROUGH MY VERY EYEZ INITIATIVE, that is in the pipeline and we look forward to conducting it soonest an exclusive program of GIZZIM YOUTH GROUP. It brings together media and information services down to the community.

EVALUATION
In the past during our photographic exhibitions, we have gauged the success of the event and the effectiveness of the photography and publishing program. With this in mind, evaluation and monitoring have always taken place in the following ways;
1)-data collected by our ushers at the registration and customer care desks.
2)-the number of persons our mobilisers direct towards the tents.
3)-each tent has hard volunteers and 50 community members
4)–data collected by our coordinators during the event
5)–reports from the staff, volunteers and stakeholders
6)-a review meeting has always been held to compile a report.
DOCUMENTATION AND SHARING RESULTS
Each department has always had to submit its report within a week of the event
Gizzim Youth Group together with the stake holders have been documenting the reports and prepared single documents in regard to the sharing of ideas.
