The Delivery
Part B –The Lesson Plan
INTRODUCTION:
At the beginning of the session
Introduction:
State the objectives and purpose of the entire session /

State how you will achieve this (give an overview) /

Say what you expect students to have learned/know by the end of the session /
INDUCT (Commence with an activity relating the lesson topic to the learners’ life experience – create a ‘hook’ in)
Connect learners with what they already know and what they need to learn. / Start with an activity, brainstorm, ice breaker, or community building activity that relates the topic to learners’ previous experience and life.

INPUT (Introduce new content)
During the session
For each ‘chunk’ of learning:
  • Give an overview of this part of the session
  • State why it is important
  • State what students will learn
Input should be comprehensive and well-sequenced. It should be non-static, the challenge to grapple with new learning; set the challenge for learning the content. /

IMPLEMENTATION (Design an activity so learners do something with the new content or the input)
During the session
Complete activity
Explain:
  • how you will be working
  • why you will be working in this way
  • what your expectation of students is
  • summarise what has been learned
This is the learners’ opportunity to practice or interpret the new content, reinforce the learning. /

INTEGRATION (Design a follow up activity to connect the lesson to the learners’ assessment requirements or to assist in practicing the new skill or knowledge – this may be done after the lesson)
At the end of/after the session:
Application of new knowledge. / Design a learning task that integrates the new learning into the learners’ lives. This could be after the lesson, could be homework or a task that assists in the upcoming assessment. Set the new knowledge learned in the context of the whole course and how they will use it.
REFLECTION
Ask students to reflect on the lesson; what have they learned; what will they do with it?
  • Summarise the entire session
  • Allow for questions
  • Ensure the learners understand how this lesson fits into the course and introduce the next topic and how it will build in this lesson.
/

EVALUATION
Reflect on how the lesson went and how you might adjust it. /
