“Gilded Age” Scrapbook or Tri-Fold Poster

Directions:

You will need to create a visual organizer in the form of a scrapbook or poster that should be colorful and creative. (NO POWERPOINTS) It should present much historical detail. Your visual organizer could consist of flowcharts, venn diagrams, comparison charts, biographical sketches, photos, etc. Your scrapbook/poster will be graded for creativity, organization, and historical content. Proofread for spelling and grammar. Include at least 1 primary document for each topic.

Choose (5) FIVE of the following topics below on which to focus. (You may do all 6 topics for 5 bonus points) Make sure to cover the topic ENTIRELY in your finished product.

  1. The American Farmer during the Gilded Age….
  2. Include information on FIVE events, inventions, items, people, groups, etc. that affected the farmers during this time period……negatively and/or positively.
  3. Things to be considered: What did the farmers support? What did they oppose? Who supported the farmers? Etc..
  1. The American Industrialist during the Gilded Age…..
  2. Include information on FIVE events, factors, people, etc……that impacted POSITIVE industrial growth during this time period.
  1. Negative Impacts of the Gilded Age on U.S. society…..
  2. Include information on FIVE NEGATIVE changes that occurred throughout U.S. society resulting from events of this time period.
  1. Impact of the Gilded Age on the WEST….
  2. Include FIVE items that changed the American West during this time period. It could include items about movement to the west, Indian relations, changes due to the railroad, etc….
  1. Changes in Race and Gender Relations during the Gilded Age…..
  2. Focus on FIVE changes for women, Indians, African-Americans, etc…that occurred during this time period. These can be negative and/or positive.
  1. The Role of Government During the Gilded Age…..
  2. Include descriptions of FIVE items, people, events, etc….that involved governmental intervention (or lack of) in American society during this time period. Remember, this could be at the national, state, or city level of government.
