August Derleth Writer’s Workshop

Open to the top 6 (maximum) writers in each grade level 3-6. The categories for submitting pieces include: poetry, personal narrative, and creative writing based on a picture. Students will participate in workshops presented by authors and experts in each category while learning techniques and strategies for improving their own writing. Anthology entries must be submitted electronically (no PDFs) by March 1. Districts participating in this event are required to provide a workshop presenter/assistant. / UW Baraboo / Academic-ELA

Elementary Spelling Bee

The top speller from either fourth OR fifth grade in each elementary building will compete against the top spellers from elementary schools in the CWTAG area. This competition is not part of the Scripp’s national spelling bee competition. Participating districts provide a judge on a rotating basis. / CAL Center Reedsburg / Academic-ELA

Open to the top 6 (max. registration two teams of three) Math 24 competitors per district in grade 4. The 4th grade competition uses single digit Math 24 cards. 5th grade is double digits. Wisconsin Mystery Box

Fourth grade teams from across the state of Wisconsin create a box filled with 25 clues that are related to the community in which they reside. The recipients use the clues to solve the mystery of which fourth grade classroom sent the box. Mystery boxes should be ready to exchange no later than April 1st. Creative Arts Festival

Open to 5th and/or 6thgrade students identified as visually and performing arts talented. Art, music, drama, and PE teachers (dance) will choose up to seven students (combined 5th & 6th grade) who will spend the day learning about and creating art or performance pieces based on interests. Students will select from either a visual or performing art session. At the end of the day, the art pieces are on display and the performances are showcased. Participating districts should provide one presenter for either a performing or visual art session. / Wautoma / Creative

Leadership Conference

Open to seventh andeighth grade students who have been identified as gifted and talented in the area of leadership. The students will learn about the qualities of great leaders and how to be an effective leader. They will participate in team building activities and set goals and action plans specific to a project the team wishes to accomplish at their school. Districts participating should bring an adult who will guide the team through developing and implementing a SMART goal. Math Maniacs

Open to 4 seventh and 4 eighth grade students who have been identified as gifted academically in the math area. Students will compete both on an individual and team level with all points awarded going toward a total team score. This is a half day event. Participating schools must send one proctor
