What is The Prince’s Trust?
The Prince’s Trust was established in 1976and now works with over58,000 young people each year. Three out of every four young people receiving support from The Trust progress into employment, education or training.
The Prince’s Trust and Jobcentre Plus have a shared purpose: to increase the number of young people moving into employment or self-employment with the skills required to make those opportunities sustainable.
The Prince’s Trustprogrammesareprimarily aimed at unemployed young people aged between 16-30 years old and consists of the following programmes:
- Get Started,
- Get Into,
- Get Into Youth Work,
- Team,
- The Enterprise Programme,and
- Fairbridge
Eligibility
All of The Prince’s Trust programmes are accessible to claimants on:
- Jobseeker’s Allowance,
- Income Support,
- Universal Credit and
- Employment Support Allowance/Incapacity Benefit.
Claimants will retain their benefit whilst participating on The Prince’s Trust provision, providing benefit entitlement conditions continue to be met. / Referral
Referral to and participation on all of The Prince’s Trust programmes is voluntary, therefore:
- Referrals should be made on a non mandatory basis;
- local arrangements apply for referral processes to providers;
- the claimant’s informed consent should be obtained prior to referral;
- Referrals should be recorded on LMS intermediary or local initiative opportunity types as per local arrangements.
Service Level Agreements (SLA)
Although SLA’s are not required to support referrals to The Prince Trust programmes, some JCPDistricts working with The Prince’s Trustmay feel that these help cement local relationships and set out a framework for delivery. An updateddraft local SLA is available for use where required.
Forward Planning
The Prince’s Trust should work with District Partnership Managers to ensure a forward plan of opportunities is available and publicised.
