Introduction

Some incoming students have already completed a Bachelor of Music (or parts of it) before enrolling at Conservatorium Maastricht. In this case, you can submit a request for exemptions for subjects you have already completed. Exemptions may also be granted based on work experience.

If you wish to submit such a request, please follow the procedure below.

Procedure

  • To submit a request, complete the student exemption form (see below in this document) and add evidence. Any other way of applying for exemptions will not be accepted.
  • You can apply for exemptions only once, so be sure to include all subjects you want to be exempted from.
  • Send it to the Examination Board by e-mail:
  • If you need help, please contact Josien Mennen ()
  • All candidates are invited to take a practical and theoretical[1] entrance exam. For the theoretical entrance exam, please bring documents/materials that show what you did in your previous studies, such as analyses, study books etc.
  • The theory lecturers will assess your level in Aural skills, Theoretical Analysis, and Fundamentals of Music. For information about these subjects, go to the Conservatorium Maastricht website: Choose your main subject; in this window you can download the curriculum overview and course descriptions.
  • After your theoretical entrance exam, you will receive an overview of the exempted subjects together with your results form, if applicable.
  • Your timetable will be adjusted to fit in with your study path, and the exemptions will be registered in the study progress system.
  • For other subjects, the Examination Board will consider your request, and/or ask other specialist assessors for advice. The Examination Board will inform you of its decision by e-mail. Since this is a time-consuming procedure, it may take several weeks.
