New Guidelines for 2013 – Read Carefully
Professional: Persons who receive payment for their work, offer instructions, or represent a commercial concern are considered professional and are not eligible to enter.
For General Public: Exhibits will be accepted at Fairgrounds Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Only one (1) entry per lot per exhibitor will be accepted, however, you can enter as many lots as desired. Judging begins at 2:30 and is not open to the public. No entry fee is charged.
1. Security guards will be in the Exhibit Hall building; however, The Exchange Club is not responsible for damages to or loss of entry, including damage from water/rain. Please review the lot’s carefully asexhibits must be the work of the exhibitor. TheExchange Club reserves the right to refuse any entry.
2. Entry tags are available by request only after September 12, 2013. Tags will no longer be available for pick up. Please contact me (706.821.2350 or ) and I will mail them to you. Or, you may fill them out on Saturday, October 12 at the Fairgrounds.Be certain exhibit is entered in the correct lot. Exhibits incorrectly entered will not be judged.
3. Hanging exhibits must have secure hanger brackets and hangers. Exhibits should be fastened together and contain no loose pieces. Multiple piece exhibits should be securely fastened to display unit. Exhibitor must furnish display unit. Wall hangings must be framed and equipped for hanging.
4. Exhibits are judged by comparison with like exhibits in the lot. Articles without competition willbe judged on their own merit and will receive awards only if deemed worthy by the judges.
5. All exhibits must remain on display until Sunday, October 27, 2013 and must be picked up between 3:00 –6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013.

JUDGING CRITERIA
QUILTED ITEMS
1.Appearance
A.Clean, neat, and tidy.
B.Balance of color within design.
C.Invisible quilting pattern marks.
2.Stitches
A.Consistent, small, even running stitches on both front and back.
B.No knots or backstitches visible on top or back of quilt.
3.Binding
A.Compliments the top as part of the overall design.
B.Firm and filled with all three layers.
C.Even width and firmly stitched.
4.Patchwork
A.Corners meet evenly.
B.Trim evenly and press pieces toward the dark side of the seam so they will not show through.
5.Appliqué
A.No raw edges visible.
B.Thread matches pieces of appliqué.
6.Size
- A quilted item can be many sizes. It can range from a doll's quilt to an item to fit a king-size bed. Other suggested items may include Baby Quilt, Wall Hanging, Lap Robe, Twin Size, Full Size, and Queen Size.
CROCHET AND KNITS
1.Appearance
A. Clean, neat and tidy.
B. No stains on item.
2.Stitches
A. Neat, even stitches.
B. Avoid twisted stitches.
C. No knots on back of item.
3.Finishing
A. Item should be blocked, giving a smooth even look to stitches.
B. Do not iron.
C. Do not leave loose ends on back of piece. All ends should be woven in through the back of stitches.
D. Avoid bulky seams. Garments should be put together with neat, even side seams.

ADDITIONAL POINTERS
1.Cross Stitch
A. Correct slant:All top stitches lying in one direction.
B. Tension:Stitches lying flat, no distortion of the hole, no lines visible across top of rows.
C. Texture:Usually thread equal to a thread of the background fabric and on the airy side rather than heavilypadded.
D. Reverse side:When it can be seen, reverse side stitches are vertical, there should be no knots or long carrying thread or thread tails showing.
E. Finishing:Horizontal and vertical grain of fabric perfect.
2.Appliqué
A. Grain should match.
B. Pieces should not pucker.
C. If edges are raw; they must adequately cover the stitches to prevent fraying. Stitches for turned under edges should be close enough together - no large gaps.
D. Turning - appropriate depth for weave of fabric.
3.Crewel
A. Overall appearance good.
B. Background fabric suitable.
C. Tracing does not show.
D. Design read properly.
E. Color used to the best advantage.
F. Stitches executed properly and used in the right places to enhance the design.
G. Satin stitches - even edges, smooth.
H. Long and short stitches - good color blend, and even angles.
I. No fabric showing under filling stitches.
4.Stamped Fabric Embroidery
A. Stamped lines covered.
B. Correct thread weight for design and fabric.
C. Appropriate stitches for design.
