St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, located at 19 Cedar Ridge Drive in Daleville, is seeking a qualified part-time Director of Music Ministries/Choir Director to assist in making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. St. Mark’s is a growing, vital congregation averaging over 300 people in regular weekly worship services. Our 12 person staff, comprised of both full and part time members, prizes collaboration and values a commitment to excellence in worship and ministry.

The Director of Music Ministries/Choir Director’s primary role is to coordinate and lead the adult choir for our 11:00 service, both to present a weekly choral anthem as well as direct bi-annual choral cantatas. Currently our choir is in session ten months out of the year with a two month Summer break. Please see the position description below for a more thorough outline of responsibilities.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs the choir and nurtures those who serve in the Church’s various music programs. Responsible for the discernment and development of new music ministries, as well as recruitment, nurture and development of laity who take part in the Church’s music programs. Responsible for and knowledge of the music and equipment used for the music programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Work with staff and volunteers to plan and implement music programs for worship and special events.

  • Select, purchase and prepare music to support the appointed scripture readings and sermon.

  • Lead rehearsals, weekly adult choir practice (may elect to suspend during summer months however alternative music programs shall be provided.)

  • Monitor Church compliance with all copyright laws.

  • Ensure necessary audio/musical equipment to be used for services is present and operational.

  • Provide guidance to musicians and/or vocalists.

  • Assist with the development of the Church’s music budget as approved by Charge Conference.

  • Work closely with congregational leadership and attend meetings as necessary.

  • Organize and oversee adult music programsDoes not necessarily have to lead each program but assure that music programs are active, led by lay leadership and in consultation with the Pastor.

  • Seek to enhance and grow the Church’s broader ministry.
  • Evaluate and monitor music instruments and equipment condition, maintain in good order and report to pastor any needs for budgeting purposes.
  • Maintain musical library and vestments.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
Education: / College degree (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
Experience: / Microsoft Office & Windows proficient.
Certifications/ Licenses: / No requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: / Values team ministry and has ability to work with staff and laity.
Vocal and keyboard proficiency.
Ability to read, score and arrange music.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with diverse group of people with a wide range of musical talents and skills.
Organizational skills in time management, financial management.
Additional Requirements: / Self-motivated; must be able to function without direct supervision.
Ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and special service times.
Preferred working understanding of Wesleyan/Mainline Theology.
