General Specification – Flange Isolation Kit – Flat Gasket – Rubber Faced

For Flanged Pipeline Systems – Energy/Water Market

Effective: 3/12/12

General Application Description: Materials for sealing gaskets on pipes containing gas, natural gas, oil and other hydrocarbon based medias up to 175ºF, 79ºC) shall be manufactured of the following components:

Sealing/Isolating Flat Gasket

One flat full faced isolating and sealing gasket, (Fits over bolt holes) FLATEMATE™ Type “E”, 1/8” thick, Phenolic Retainer and Nitrile Faced. The Phenolic shall have a 500 volts/mil. dielectric strength and a minimum 25,000 psi compressive strength. The full faced flange sealing/isolating gasket shall be 1/8" less in I.D. than the I.D. of the flange (unless specified by end user) in which it is installed.

Full Length Sleeves – For Isolating Bolts

A full length Mylar sleeve with a wall thickness of 1/32” (0.79mm) passing through both steel washers for each bolt/stud. The Mylar sleeve shall have a dielectric strength of 1100 volts/mil and water absorption of 0.80%.

Washers – Double Set

Two 1/8”” (3.2mm) thick Phenoic isolating washers for each bolt/stud. Compressive strength shall be 25,000 psi – dielectric strength of 500 volts/mil – water absorption of 1.6%. Two zinc plated (ZP) washers are needed for each bolt/stud. Isolating and steel washers shall have the same O.D. and I.D. and fit over the full length sleeve.

Quality

Gaskets shall be manufactured at a facility that has an internal quality management system. Submittals shall include a copy of manual, if required by end user. Gaskets shall be A.R.R.A Compliant and 100% made in U.S.A.

Availability

Gaskets shall be manufactured by 3-Flow, Inc. in U.S.A. and can be purchased through authorized stocking distributors. Central Plastics, Equal or alternate products should be submitted to an engineer or end user 14 days prior to bid date.

Performance suitability and material compatibility shall be determined by the user.
