The Mission at TheKitchiGammi Club

The KitchiGammi Club is a place to develop lifelong friendships, host family celebrations, pursue new endeavors, and enrich business relationships within a magnificent Club. A historic landmark of prominence that inspires our traditions today, the KitchiGammi Club is a superb venue, where family and quality of life are valued, and also a second home, a place of comfort nurtured by generations.
Your first glimpse of the city of Duluth, as you head north on Interstate 35, is breathtaking. Duluth's topography is dominated by a steep hillside that climbs from Lake Superior to high inland elevations. For this reason, Duluth has been called "the San Francisco of the Midwest," alluding to San Francisco's similar water-to-hilltop topography.
Continue on your journey around the hillside and down the incline towards the KitchiGammi Club and you drive through youthful and vibrant downtown Duluth teaming with eclectic shops and a variety of dining venues. As you arrive at the historic KitchiGammi Club you are struck by the beauty of the building's Bertram Goodhue architecture and its grandiose view of Lake Superior. Welcome to the KitchiGammi Club!

KitchiGammi Club History

The KitchiGammi Club is the oldest incorporated Club in Minnesota and has been serving Duluth and the surrounding area since its formation on October 1, 1883. Sixteen original incorporators described as "individualistic men of prominence, respect and leadership in the community" were at the club's first meeting.
The present clubhouse was formally opened on January 1, 1914. The site was chosen by the building committee for its convenient location on Superior Street and its unobstructed view of Lake Superior. The KitchiGammi Club has been described as one of the last buildings built which embodies so many ancient handicrafts and so much detailed handwork in metal, wood and stone. The Clubhouse was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and the Club is preparing for its 100th anniversary celebration of the clubhouse.
Throughout the years the Club has grown in both membership and vitality as a force in the community. Many prominent Americans and distinguished foreign visitors have been guests at the Club.
Today, perhaps more than any time during its first century, the Club's role as a community resource enhances Duluth's national reputation as a business center and a place where tradition and quality of life remain important. Both historically and architecturally, the KitchiGammi Club is one of Duluth's outstanding landmarks.
