General Editing in Hyperkey Mode

Auto Magic (located on left column): Gives you a list of the 10 most likely commands or options that you might want to usefor editing

HyperKey Mode: In Hyperkey mode,(See Hyperkey Chart),all your keys on your keyboard are commands, as well as the uppercase keys (Use shift key with letter keys to get uppercase letters.) Hit ALT z or click on the Hyperkey Icon on too/bar to go in and out of the Hyperkey

Global Dictionary Entries

Ctrl g = surrounds 1outline in Realtime or edit mode. Continue to hit Ctrl g to surround multiple stroke words.

TYPE IN TEXT, THEN HIT THE ENTER KEY, WHICH PUTS ENTRY IN MASTER DICTIONARY AND

GLOBALS TO THE END (hit Ctrlj to makejob dictionary entries)

Ctrl d = manually adds a dictionary entry from anywhere in Eclipse© Movement Commands

Hyperkey mode: i,j,k, I= up, down,right, left (See command list on page 22 for additional

movement keys)

Shift j, I= right, left by one character at a time Alt g = Go to page and line number

Deleting

Ctrl y = deletes a line

Hyperkey d = deletes a word Hyperkey z = undo delete

Note: Hyperkey z will not undo a deleted line that has a paragraph,such as a Speaker, Q or A

Inserting a line

Shift FS:Creates blank lines -(Also F8:All the paragraph style choices to insert different paragraph lines)

Ctrl p = Makes a new paragraph while editing Ctrl j = Join a line

Place cursor at the beginning of the line or word that you want to join and hit Ctrl j

Enter Key willjust move the cursor down the line. It does not create a blank line unless you are on the very last line of the transcript.

General Editing in Hyperkey Mode

Spell Check

Alt s = Spell check a word. If correct, it appears in lower left-hand corner. Hit Alt s again to get alternate words.

Shift Alt s = Whole document spell check

Additional Basic Commands in Hyperkey Mode '"'= adds: s, 's,s',and other endings (toggle key) w = adds word endings

m = Mark text and then press the - key to stitch one word, mark several words and hit " to quote text,mark 2 words use - key to hyphenate between words, mark word(s) and use spacebar to join or separate

Alt 1-Alt 4 = insert words: okay, all right, you know, uh-huh Shift S and s = shave last letter of word

Shift Z = takes the cursor back to the last point of edit

Inserting, Replacing and Deleting Punctuation

, . ? ; : - -- (All punctuation will insert, replace, or delete by placing the cursor on the word after where you want the punctuation and then hitting that punctuation keyto:

•  Insert

•  Hitting same punctuation key to delete

Choosing a conflict

When you see a conflict such as: \earn\eastern

Place the cursor at the beginning of the conflict and then hit number 1or 2 based on the word usage in the conflict choice.

Speaker Dictionary Entries

Dictionary command to enter and untranslated or misstroked steno speaker into your dictionary:

Steno: STPHAO

English: {S:MR. STPHAO}

Every Speaker ID in steno that is a perfect steno stroke or misstroked must be put into your dictionary with the above format. For each steno outline, you would have a different entry.

Example: STPHAO = {S: MR. STPHAO} EUFPLT = {S: MR. EUFPLT}


EURBGS = {S: MR. EURBGS} SKWRAO = {S: MR. SKWRAO}

After all your speakers are properly in your dictionary (at least 1of each), you can use the following commands to replace them for each transcript.You must first change them from their "generic" form, MR. STPHAO, to the name of the attorney.

Changing Speakers from their "generic" form on each transcript:

o  Hit F2 from any location in the transcript

o  The Speaker Table will appear

o  Click on the desired Speaker MR. STPHAO and highlight

•  Click the Change Button

o  Type in the name of the attorney under current, i.e., MR.JONES

•  Hit Enter

o  Next,click on 'All'

o  Now you change the next speaker with the same method untilthey are allchanged.

When you are finished,CLICK ON THE 'X' - NOT ON 'OKAY'

Inserting Speakers, BY LINE, Q and A

When you did not stroke a Speaker, BY LINE, Q or A, use thefollowing method:

Insert a Speaker:

o  Place cursor where you want the speaker

•  Hit F2

o  Click on the desired speaker, click Okay Insert a Q

o  Place cursor where you want the Q

•  Hit F3 Insert an A

o  Place cursor where you want the A

•  Hit F4

Insert a BY LINE (Only a "Q" on the line)

o  Place cursor at the end of the previous line

•  Hit F2

o  Click to highlight speaker and click Okay Insert a BY LI NE (Only a "Speaker" on the line)

1.  Place cursor on the first word after the speaker and

a.  Hit F3

Replacing Speakers, Q and A

With the cursor anywhere on the paragraph hit thefollowing keys to replace any existing Speaker, Q or A:

Hyperkey Chart Assignment

1.  Create 3-4 short (2 pages) sample realtirne files. (You will use these later)

2.  Print the Hyperkey Chart

3.  Read over to review what each key's description is and locate that key on the computer keyboard . o this for all the HyperKeys on the chart.

4.  Next you will practice the Hyperkeys in one of the sample files that you previously created.

•  From the total Eclipse Main Menu, Hit Alt E to access your job file list. Point your mouse and double click on the sample file you created. Now, looking at your HyperKey chart, hit each key to see what it does. Try this on each key and then highlight the keys that you understand and put a Ion the keys you don't understand. Additionally, make notes to ask questions.

•  Continue this practice this procedure until you have gone over ALL of the Hyperkeys on the chart. o Ifyou need to quit out of your document, do so by hitting Ctrl Q and then Alt E to access another

practice file if you want to continue practicing with a new file.

5.  Next you can access one of your sample files and practice Editing with the Hyperkeys

•  Note that you will be slow at first and then the more you practice, the faster and more efficient you will get at editing, using your Hyperkeys.

•  Ifyou notice that you are consistently using more than 3 keyboard strokes to fix an editing problem, there is most likely a shortcut that would take 1-2 key strokes.

Hyperkey FAQs

Don't forget , in the Hyperkey mode, the template shows lowercase and uppercase letters. You need to hit the Shift key and then the Hyperkey in orderfor the uppercase commands tofunction properly.

Here is a review and explanation of the most common questions after doing the Hyperkey Chart Assignment

These are all functions in Hyperkey Mode:

-' = Apostrophe flip

This is a toggle key, meaning you can keep hitting it and it will add 's, s', s's, or an add itional pick list.

Hyperkey g and Alt 7 - 0

These keys can be used instead of Ctrl g, to global 2, 3, 4 or 5 steno strokes. Hyperkey g, globals l stroke.

r+ and v+

r+ is UpScan v+ is Dn Scan and This key will bring up a men u to scan to items in the transcript, so it is also like a search menu.

w = Word endings

Place your cursor on a word and then hit Hyperkey w and the word ending list will appear. Chose your ending and it will add to your word and modified it if needed, i.e.: baby to babies .

Num ber conversion keys: Hyperkey T = Time, Shift N = gives choices for number conversions, Shift W =

changes digits to word format, Shift M changes number to money format

Hyperkey n = type in text

You will use this key whenever you want to insert or replace text. To insert text, place cursor on word, hit hyperkey n, type your text, hit space bar, then enter 2x. To replace text, hit hyperkey n, place cursor on word, type word, hit enter 2x.

Shift s and s hyperkey

These two keys delete the Last character off a word. Shift S, deletes the last character of word the cursor is on. s deletes the last character of the previou s word the cursor is on.

Shift Ctrl FlO

This command is to View/Hide Print commands which you wil l learn more about in Transcript Prep II.

Shift Z = Movement oops

This is a great key to use when you find yourself somewhere else for whatever reason in the transcript. You i mmediately hit Shift Z and it will take you back to your last point of edit.

z = undo

This key should be used if you do a keyboard command and then want to immediatel y undo it. It does not work with globals.

Shift X = Mark Spot

You can hit this key and then it will set a marker spot and then you can return to it with HyperkeyShift V

Shift C and c

These are specific keys to scan to an unresolved or resolved conflict. So if you are editing and you notice a few

l ines down there is a conflict to resolve or change, you can just hit the hyperkey c to jump right to it. TE also will learn your conflict choices as you pick them, so if they system has choosen a conflict for you, and you notice it is incorrect, then the Shift C will scan to it and then you can look in the lower left corner of the screen to see the conflict in its original conflict form and then choose the correct conflict by hitting the number of that conflict, i.e. l or 2.

Shift B = Butting In

When an attorney/witness is interrupted, you would generally put dashes at the end of that sentence and if the attorney picks up where they left off, then you would put dashes at the beginning of that statement. This is what the Butting ln key will do for you; however you would place the cursor at the second part of the statement where the attorney/witness picked up from their interruption and then hit the Shift B key. It will put dashes there and then go back up to where the attorney/witness was interrupted and put dashes there as well.

b+ = brings up a list of commands

The keys with a "+"just mean that a menu will pop up, giving you additional commands. This really is not a key that is used very often. In the advanced class you may learn to use this key for a couple of the functions. All the commands are also utilized using other keyboard commands or the pulldown menus.

v+ = brings up a list of commands to find these items

The keys with a "+"just mean that a menu will pop up, giving you additional commands. Use this in stead of the Find key tojump to these specific items.

m = Mark

The m hyperkey is a quick way in Hyperkeys to mark text. Once your text is marked, you can then hit - to spell out, or mark two words and then - to hyphenate word, you can mark several words and then put 1111 around those words, also mark a word and then hit the a hyperkey (3 times) and notice how it changes the word to lowercase, uppercase and initial case. You can mark one word with m hyperkey and then hit the spacebar to separate orjoin words. So the m hyperkey by itself only marks, but in conjunction with other keys, it does much more.

Shift N, M, T, W

These keys will change number format. Your cursor would need to be on any form of a number(s) and then hit for example Shift M and it will change that number to a $ amount.

Shift < >

These are simply movement keys to go to the next or previous punctuat ion. Ctrl F7

Ifneeded, this will change your translated word(s) back into an untranslated steno

Shift Ctrl FS

This command wi ll allow you to view or not view your steno. Hit once to view steno and then again to bring it back.

x = extend sentence

This command would simply take you to the end of a word so you can then add an ending or another word, they you would go back i nto Hyperkeys.Iwould recommend using Hyperkey n for typing in words and then there is also Hyperkey w to add word endings.

e = fil l in field on include files = go to trouble spot, such as all items that need to be addressed inthe transcript. i.e.: untranslates, conflicts, fields.
