GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE UNIT

WARMING UP ACTIVITY ( 5 min )

We will introduce the topic and teach basic vocabulary:

“Today I’m wearing ___” “Who else is wearing [shoes]? Who else is wearing ___? Students will try to guess what the teacher and their classmates are wearing and what the lesson will be about.

MAIN TEACHING PROCEDURE ( 15 min )

We put on board flashcards of the items of clothes as well as the written form of the words . We also hold up other sample clothing, and say “This is a skirt, I’m wearing a skirt, I’m wearing a yellow skirt.”.We read the vocabulary out loud. The pronunciation of the vocabulary will be repeated a few times. After the introduction of the new items we may ask comprehension questions “Is this a red skirt or a yellow skirt? Are these sandals or gloves? What are you wearing?

Play a flashcard game . Stick the picture cards and word cards on the wall. Say the name of the item of clothing and either “word” or “ picture ” and the children have to run and touch the correct card.

Objectives :To learn vocabulary related to clothes: jumper, jacket, socks, shirt, trousers, skirt, dress, shoes, boots, head scarf, shorts, slippers, sandals, t-shirt, pyjamas, hat, scarf, gloves, trainers, jeans. Colours are revised.To be able to identify the written form of the words ( word recognition ) To be able to apply what they have learnt to a real life situation , using the continuous aspect of the present tense.e.g “I’m wearing a green hat”.

PRODUCTION MOMENT ( 15 min )

After all the children had the chance to speak we give them the following handouts and explain the worksheets. We ask a few questions to ensure students understand the instructions

EXTRA PRACTICE ( 10 minutes )

6) Create a “clothes catalogue scene”:

We will need to bring in some old catalogues or magazines .We put the class into small groups and give each group a catalogue, a large piece of construction paper/card, scissors and some felt tip pens.We tell the students that they have 10 minutes to create a scene with lots of people. They need to cut out clothes from the catalogue and draw to create the picture.It will help if we have already created our own scene so students can see what they have to do. As everyone is creating their scene, we walk around the classroom asking questions related to the vocabulary ( What is he wearing?) and help with new words.Finally have each group present the scene using the structure “ He / She is wearing a blue hat”. We can put all the scenes on the classroom walls as decoration.

HOMEWORK

Teacher asks students to create their favourite shirt or shoes. Students are asked to colour it. It can be as funny and colourful as they want. We could design our own and show it to them as an example of what we are asking them to do.They could display it in the following lesson.
