GECO PROJECT SUMMARY
STEP 1MEMO: The first step of the project was to do a memo for me regarding a simple phone call to your grandparents. After the phone call you were supposed to write down 300-400 words in 2 separate paragraphs. From there each of you is expected to pick on side of your family to begin researching on at home/school/ or in the MV library. Each of you is also expected to sign up for to keep track of your family tree. DUE SEP. 9/22
STEP 2: GENI.COM create a geni.com account so that you may be able to print this to turn in with your project. This is a FREE account and will be what we will use for our research online.
STEP 3:RESEARCH: The first step after the memo will be to choose either your mother’s or father’s side of your family. As you begin your research you will want to write down birth dates / death dates of all the individuals that are related to you on the GENEALOGY TREE that I gave you. The goal is to get back 300 years or so if at all possible. If you are more focused on a city you will be doing an in depth study of the city/ area that you came from. However, do not forget that your research log / family tree is still due. DUE at the end of semester, but will do a check on NOVEMBER / DECEMBER
STEP 4:10 PRIMARY SOURCE DOCUMENTS will be included in each of your projects. Make sure that items in the form of copies ONLY! This will ensure they do not get lost as I do not want to be responsible for your parents valuable information. What are some example of primary source documents: birth certificates, ship logs, death certificates, WWI draft cards, anything that proves what that person did in their life or where they traveled. I will be collecting 10 of these from each one of you. I will probably do a check sometime in early December. If you are doing the CITY project you will only need 5!
STEP 5:10 Photos Each student will be responsible for 10 photos of their family. (The older the better) The photo should be labeled and can be a copy of the original.
STEP 6: MAP You will create a MAP showing the locations of your family over the years. You may use or I will provide you with a map to show the locations your family has been throughout history. On the back I would like you to number and label each of the locations explaining the movement regarding the push/pull theory.
STEP 7:GECO updates: These will be done on a monthly basis. They will be in memo format and will address each of the GECO categories regarding geography, events, culture and occupation. Each update will be worth 25 points each so take your time and plan them out.
