DearGeorgiaCollege Recruit;
Let me be the first to say thank you for your interest in the GCSU cheerleading program. GCSU is a highly competitive cheerleading team that prides it’s self on its reputation at the college level of cheerleading. With several NCA National titles, GCSU is becoming known as one of the South’s top Division II cheerleading programs.
I have enclosed a list of requirements that we feel will make the ideal GCSU cheerleader. Along with the listed requirements, all cheerleaders will need to be accepted into GCSU before trying out. All cheerleaders will go through a 3 day rigorous tryout process. Day 1 of tryouts cheerleaders will be expected to run a mile in under 9 minutes, go through some conditioning, and tumble. Day 2 of tryouts cheerleaders will be placed into stunt groups to work on the stunt requirements for tryouts (You will be allowed to bring a certain set of bases or flyers from home if you like). Along with stunts, you will be taught a dance for females and a cheer/chant for males. Day 3 of tryouts all cheerleaders will go through an interview process as well as perform their individual skill requirements.
While the following is a list of suggested physical requirements, we do take into consideration the whole cheerleader. Work ethic, athleticism, personality, and mental toughness will all be determined when selecting our 2009-2010 varsity and junior varsity team.
To help you better prepare for tryouts, GCSU will hold a tryout clinic on April 4th, 2009. At this tryout clinic you will get to meet the coach and start learning some of the skill requirements for tryouts on May 1st-3rd. Anyone interested in signing up should contact me directly.
Once again thank you for your interest in the GCSU cheerleading program and we hope to see you in May.
Sincerely,
James P. Redus
*** Anyone who misses our spring tryouts will be eligible for our fall tryouts in September.
