Second-generation active caries protection: after the sensational launch of GC Tooth Mousse at the International Dental Show (IDS) 2005, GC EUROPE has now come up with another revolution in prevention: the efficacy of GC MI Paste Plus is based on the revolutionary ingredient Recaldent™, which is derived from the milk protein casein. Like its predecessor, the new protective dental cream stimulates saliva flow and enhances natural remineralisation. However, GC MI Paste Plus additionally has 900 ppm of a unique, patented form of fluoride – for greater remineralisation potential especially for at-risk patients.
While the CPP-ACP complex (Recaldent™) contained in GC Tooth Mousse has already proven itself in practice as the ideal system for transporting freely available calcium and phosphate ions, GC MI Paste Plus has an added prophylactic bonus: the new protective dental cream from the forward-looking “minimum intervention” range from GC EUROPE not only has the unique active ingredient Recaldent™ but additionally 0.2 per cent of a special form of sodium fluoride.
Mineral balance in the mouth with CPP-ACPF
When the sugar-free cream based on milk protein is in the mouth, freely available calcium, phosphate and fluoride ions are released from the CPP-ACPF complex and penetrate the enamel prisms where they are converted into fluorapatite crystals As “liquid dental enamel”, GC MI Paste Plus reforms a reserve of minerals directly in the carious lesion and thus makes the enamel harder and more acid-resistant. At the same time, the flavoured cream stimulates saliva flow and restores the mouth’s natural acid balance, which has been disrupted by internal or external sources of acid. Even though the pH of the product is above seven, it increases mineral absorption without stimulating the formation of tartar.
However, this innovative CPP-ACPF complex has other advantages, too. For instance, the opacity of new white spots caused by demineralisation is visibly reduced and initial caries can be stopped or even cured. At the same time, possible hypersensitivities (after bleaching treatment, for instance) can be reduced as a result of the minerals sealing the dentinal tubules.
Minimum expenditure – maximum caries protection
GC MI Paste Plus can be used for nearly all patients thanks to its biological formula. There are only two exceptions: the cream should only be given to children over six years of age because of its high fluoride content of 900 ppm, which is nearly equivalent to that of a toothpaste for adults. It is also not recommended for people who are allergic to milk protein.
Together with its unique caries-protective advantages, it is the uncomplicated topical application of this cream that makes it so impressive. The product is spread onto the tooth surface by the dentist or patient using a swab, glove or an interdental brush and is left in the mouth for four or five minutes. It is important to remember that the longer the cream is allowed to take effect, the more lasting the success of the treatment will be – overnight use at home therefore intensifies the preventive effect. In patients at very high risk of caries, GC MI Paste Plus can readily be applied twice a day, morning and evening.
Owing to its extremely high remineralisation effect, the cream is particularly suitable for patients with active caries, poor plaque control, erosions, xerostomia or with gastric acid reflux. It is also indicated for people at very high risk of caries, with sensitive teeth or restricted oral hygiene capability (during or after orthodontic measures, for instance) and after radiotherapy in the head or neck area. Thanks to its natural composition, comprising milk proteins, it can safely be used as extra caries protection by pregnant women who suffer from increased acid content in their saliva, for example.
