MALDON TRACK
Hornby
Gauge 0 Track specifications for 38 inch radius Points. (also known as Foster Track)
F8 and F9 38 inch radius points consist of a straight through rail 11.53 inches (293 mm) long and a 38 inch radius curve rail (965.2 mm radius)see R4 38 inch radius curve rail specifications.
The code 200 rail are held in place by plastic chairs set into the base made from 3.00 mm black sheet (please see below). The direction of the points is directed by means of a metal leaverset on the opposite side of base to the turn out (branch line); the leaver’s movement is parallel with the through rail.
The three rail version of the 38” inch point
The leaver (on the standard points)switches the path of the current on the centre rail from the through centre rail to the branch centre line. The frog is the same polarity as the outer rails.
The two rail version of the 38 inch point the frog is isolated from the current; the branch line away from the frog would normally be isolated from the layout by an isolated fish plate (isolated rail joiner).
To use the point for two and three rail layouts the wire that joins stock rails (outer rails) and frog could be re routed to a two pole switch, so that the outer rails can be configured to one of the above.
The 38 inch points have check rails on the inside of the stock rails (outer rails) these are set for most makes of trains.
The radius is measured to the inside face of the outer running rail.
The radius from centre of middle rail 949 mm
Gauge: 32mm (1¼ inch)
Distance over rails 1.45 inches (36.9 mm)
Distance from centre to outer edge of rail 0.725 (18.415mm)
Height of the top of rails 9.2mm
The distance from bass to the end of the rail on the through track is 14 mm.
Rail:Code 200nickel silver Flat bottom rail. (Samerail as used for the SM32 track manufactured by PECO)
Width of rail on contact upper face 2.4 mm
Chairs:Black satin ABS plastic UV compatible
Base: Black Phenolic paper BSEN 60893-3-4 PFCP201
Wheel Arrangement:Maximum flange depth 3.5mm or 0.140 inches.
Minimum back to back dimension through points 26.75mm.
Known Problems.
The rail chairs can rise off the bass during transport.
A-line the chair with hole in bass and tap into place
The outer rails can be forced out of line during transport or when fitting, so that the ABS glue, used to hold the rail in place, can break allowing the rail to move. A little force can be applied to reline the outer rail, if the damage is excessive please return the point to us. New chairs for this sort of damage are ready available.
Bowman Live steam trains require a larger gap between the outer rails and check rail.
