Self-awareness, self-monitoring and self-control. / I need to learn how to better monitor myself and develops strategies that will help me handle the temptations that take me away from my schoolwork. / I know some of my challenges and strengths. I monitor myself, but I am easily distracted from studying and schoolwork by family and friends. I need to develop in this area. / I monitor myself. I usually disciplined and understand what is needed to accomplish my schoolwork. Occasionally, I get distracted. When this happens, I can quickly and easily get back on track. / I am aware of my strengths and challenges. Imonitor myself and understand what I need to do to accomplish my goals. I am very disciplined and will study and complete my assignments, even though I’d rather be social or do
something other than schoolwork.
Reflecting on ones learning, / I’ need to better understand why reflection is important and how it can help with my future success. / I reflect on my learning and actions, but my reflections don’t usually provide guidance for my future actions or work. / On occasion, I reflect on my learning and actions. When I do reflect, I am able to use some of my reflections to help guide my future actions or work. / I reflect regularly on my learning and my actions. My reflections help guide my future actions and work.
Understanding the growth mindset / I’m not familiar with what it means to have a growth or fixed mindset. But I assume I cannot change my intelligence. / I’d need to know more about the growth mindset, what it means, how it impacts success, and how I can shift from a fixed mindset. / I know intelligence can change with effort and practice, but I need to learn more and understand how I can improve my intelligence and ability to learn. / I understand that I can get smarter by getting the assistance I need, applying greater effort and practicing. I understand what it means to have a growth mindset.
The ability to transfer learning to various situations and employ a variety of learning strategies / I have difficulty taking what I learn in class and applying it to bigger problems or applying it to work in a different class / I know of some learning strategies,but need to know about more. Sometime what I learn and how I learn doesn’t seem to connect or be relevant to my life. / I have some learning strategies I can use, but I don’t use them regularly. I can sometime apply what I learned from one situation to another, but I need more practice. / I can identify and use a variety of learning strategies. I understand how to apply what I learned from one situation to another.
Study skills, time management and prioritization of tasks. / I would describe myself as disorganized. I could accomplish more if I had better ways to organize my study time. I need to know more about tools that can help me. / I know about some of the tools available to help my organizational skills and on occasion, I use them. But, a lot of the time, I still scramble to get my work done at the last minute. / I use tools sometimes, but using organizational tools regularly is a challenge for me. I need more practice. I need to figure out how to make more time to study. / I am organized and know how to use my time well. I can prioritize my work and use tools such as calendars or planers to stay on top of my assignments. I schedule time to study.
Identifying and utilizing resources that support academic success. / A lot of times, I’m not certain what resources could support my academic success, and it’s hard for me to speak up about my needs. I’d like to deal with it on my own. / I can identify and access some resources but I’m not very comfortable doing this or speaking up about my needs. / I know about some resources and on occasion I have accessed them, I’m not comfortable advocating for my needs but sometimes I will do it. / I can identify and access resources that support my academic success. I know that successful college students take advantage of resources on campus. I can speak up for my needs with adults, instructors and my peers.

Factors that contribute to college preparation. These factors refer to attitudes, behaviors and skills such as:

Please note:

It is not expected that you would rate a 4 in every category. A “wavy” line should be expected.

If you possess traits that are more in the 3-4 range, you have more attitudes, behaviors and skills on the continuum of college readiness and are most likely, better prepared for college success.Dips into the 1-2 range will identify that additional supports are needed to develop more of the attitudes, behaviors and skills that support college success. You will need to complete a goal sheet with your resource specialist and develop a specific plan for how you will demonstrate and develop the attitude behaviors college readiness.
