IBWSC 2017

GAT Project Planner and Summary

Project name: / Students of ______
GAT Name/Leader: / the ROC-odiles! / Alex Brahm
Background: What needs have you identified and hope to address by the project? (link to themes and content of conference) / Mission & Objectives: What do you want to achieve?
The need to better understand the students and people around you and break down the boundaries that may have come between you before. / Breaking the boundaries around profiling, judgement, and stereotyping.
Activities (objectives):
How the project will achieve your goals / Collaborators: What groups are important in the development and implementation of the project? (within the organization)
Students will seek out other students at their school to interview. They can ask questions that will shed light on the individual, while promoting understanding of different cultural, racial, economic, and gender, etc groups.
sample questions:
“tell us about yourself”
“what is a tradition in your family or culture?”
“what stereotypes do you face on a daily basis?”
“what misconceptions do people have about you?”
“what surprises people about you that they would not know from just looking at you?”
The answers to the questions, as well as a photo of the student, will then go up on an Instagram profile created for the project (studentsof___) AND/OR a poster in the school AND/OR a pamphlet AND/OR whatever else can make the information public to the school community. / The administration of social media and the people who create the account. As well as those who are in charge of the production of a prototype of a book.
Partners: What groups or organizations are crucial to the development of the project? What are their roles? (outside the organization) / Timeline: What sort of timeline have you developed?
-volunteers to be interviewed
-volunteers to interview people
-volunteers to put information together and share it / -Month to month updates
-End of the year switch up.
Budget/Resources: What funds and materials are needed? / Communication: How would you use social media or other approaches to communicate your project?
-access to social media
-paper and printer for flyers
-poster board to promote / Possibly creating an account displaying “ person of day” and/or creating an entire log of all the schools.
The school will create an Instgram (or other platform) to post pictures and short bios of students from around the school.
The global hashtag #studentsofIB will be a way for students around the world to follow and learn about students from different IB schools globally
Evaluation: How you will measure success? What challenges would you have to overcome as a result of implementing this in the real world?
We will be able to measure the success of our project based on the amount of profiles being sent to the Instagram page, meaning that we will be able to continue updating the page on a monthly basis as we intended to. Also if the profiles that are being sent in come from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds we will know that we have achieved our global objective.
For the physical aspect of our project we will be able to measure the success by the amount of volunteers asking to be a part of the project or the amount of papers filled out and received that exceeds our expectations.
Some challenges: Some people lack internet access, don’t have a social media account, or, for some reason, haven’t been given the information about, “Students of ______”.
