1. Jerry set the alarm clock for seven, but it failed to go off. From the window, he saw his bus coming. Sam and Doris, their books in their arms, were waiting for it. Jerry grabbed his books and ran out the door. The driver spotted him, and waited.
2. Once upon a time there was a boy named Jack, and one morning he started to go and seek his fortune. He hadn’t gone very far before he met a cat.
«Where are you going, Jack?» said the cat.
«I am going to seek my fortune».
«May I go with you?»

3. Wars were common in Europe in the Middle Ages, and many monarchs and nobles built castles as a form of defense. Typical medieval castles have outer walls surrounding a moat. Inside the moat is a courtyard, protected by another wall. The innermost and strongest part of a medieval castle is the keep. There are two main types of keep: round towers called donjons and rectangular keeps (“hall-keeps”), such as the Tower of London. Castles were often guarded by salience (projecting fortification), like those of the Bastille.
