The family would like to thank everyone for the kindness they have shown to Vernon in his final days. May God bless each of you. He loved you all. Please stay after the graveside to enjoy a time of fellowship in celebration of Vernon’s life.

Rolfe Vernon Gregory, 88, of Buckingham, departed this life on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.

He was born September 26, 1926 in Manteo, Virginia, a son of the late Rolfe Talley Gregory and Bessie Ragland Gregory. Preceding him in death are his wife Thelma Farrish Gregory; his son Stuart Russell Gregory; three brothers, Albert Sidney Wooten, Melvin Jackson Gregory and Kenneth Ray Gregory; three sisters, Evelyn Griffin, Viola Reid and Marion Robertson. Survivors include four nephews, Wayne Robertson of Scottsville, Hastings Griffin of South Boston, Floyd (Bud) Reid and Melvin Gregory, both of Dillwyn; four nieces, Cynthia Reid-Jones of Buckingham; Debra Goin of Scottsville, Jacqueline Gentry of Buckingham and Teresa Gimbert of Charlottesville; a sister-in-law Norma Gregory; his beloved dachshund, Scooby II and a host of great nieces and nephews. Vernon was deeply loved by all.

Vernon served in the U.S. Army in World War II battles and campaigns on the Island of Okinawa and throughout the South Pacific. Upon retiring with many years of paving roads in Northern Virginia, Vernon returned to Buckingham. He continued to work and share his talents with anyone in need.

He was a faithful member of Mulberry Grove Baptist Church and took his faith in God very seriously. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church.
