About Us

Hammersmith and Fulham Mind is the leading independent mental health provider in West London since 1986.

HFM offer a wide variety of services designed to improve the lives and situations of people experiencing mental health problems. In total our services reach out and support about 2,000 per annum either as direct service users, carers or service recipients. For many of our service users, HFM is the only local provider of the type of support they need and trust. We have a unique, local USP in that we do reach the hardest to reach amongst mental health service users, this is largely the result of our User Involvement strategy that enables them to develop and shape our service offer. We also run two successful social enterprises, Well at Work which is a training and consultancy service to organisations around workplace wellbeing and Time to Talk which is a low cost long term counselling service.

The role:

These are exciting times for Hammersmith and Fulham Mind. Having a long term track record of statutory commissioned work and with the successful development of two income generation social enterprises we’re now piloting innovative ways to grow our community and corporate fundraising. We're looking for a Volunteer Fundraiser to help us diversify our income streams. With support from our Business Development Manager who has led fundraising teams for the NSPCC, Scope and Teenage Cancer Trust, you will be responsible for helping is todevelop fundraising initiatives including community fundraising, corporate fundraising and legacies. You will also be involved in our Trusts & Foundations applications and will have the opportunity to design and implement new income streams.

This is a unique opportunity for a person who is looking to make a break into a fundraising career to develop skills, be involved in all aspects of fundraising, get creative and make a huge impact for a small charity.

Tasks:

To work closely with the Business Development Manager on implementing our new fundraising strategy in Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow.

KEY TASKS:

  1. Using desk based research to identify local companies that have a propensity to give to local cause and ideally a connection to mental health and our work
  2. Approaching relevant companies with a tailored and mutually beneficial proposal
  3. Researching potential major donors who live in our boroughs and have an affinity with mental health
  4. Helping to promote H&F Mind and Mind in Ealing and Hounslow through a variety of communication channels in order to raise our profile in the local community
  5. Supporting on the day activities of the wider business development including supporting on trust and foundation applications
  6. Fulfilling internet research and identifying new third party event opportunities and creative fundraising ideas
  7. Coordinate and build relationships with existing and newschools/students/community groups
  8. Support any individuals/groups organising their own fundraising activities
  9. Identify and recruit people to local challenge events (Ealing Half Marathon and Run to the Beat)
  10. First point of contact and responding to general email and phone enquires

KEY SKILLS:

Essential skills:

- Strong writing and communication skills and excellent attention to detail

- Excellent telephone manner

- A strong interest in fundraising

- A commitment to H&F Mind’s vision

- Experience using Microsoft Office applications

- Ability to undertake research tasks independently

- Shows dependability for volunteering on agreed days

Desirable:

- Previous experience of working in an office environment

- Experience of working in a diverse team across different fundraising disciplines

- Experience of on the day event management and of supporting participants

-- Experience in composing proposals and research profiles
