Fundraising Officer

Responsible for individual and event fundraising

Reports to: Head of Fundraising, Get Connected

Objectives: To develop Get Connected’s new individuals’ fundraising programme, attracting new supporters and maintaining relationships with existing donors; to organise fundraising events for the benefit of Get Connected, according to an agreed strategy and ensuring annual targets are met; to implement corporate fundraising initiatives with The Carphone Warehouse. We have ambitious plans for development over the next five years, and the successful candidate will be ideally placed to advance their career during this period of dramatic growth.

Location: Central London - Marylebone

The role:

  1. Develop our recently launched individual giving campaign, to increase donations from Get Connected’s current donors and attract new supporters.
  1. Research, develop and make recommendations for further individual donor cultivation.
  1. Research, develop and make recommendations for enhancing existing Get Connected fundraising events (comedy night, quizzes, mass participation events), and implement new events to increase fundraising and awareness for the charity.
  1. Develop and manage fundraising events with our principal corporate supporter, The Carphone Warehouse, and work with them in order to maximise income from the relationship.
  1. Develop positive relationships with all stakeholders, including external contacts, donors, trustees, staff and volunteers to optimise potential funding opportunities.
  1. Work with the Marketing department to raise the profile of Get Connected with relevant stakeholders.
  1. Identify, research and cultivate relationships with potential major individual donors.
  1. Efficiently track and manage all projects, providing regular reports on activities.
9.Maintain accurate financial records for fundraising activities, working within agreed budgets, and provide regular income forecasts.
  1. Carry out additional duties as requested by the Head of Fundraising or Chief Executive, and deputise for the Head of Fundraising in specific areas of their work.
Person specification

Essential

  • Minimum two years’ experience working on individual giving programmes
  • Experience of planning and organising a range of fundraising events, or able to demonstrate transferable skills
  • Enthusiastic and vibrant team player, with excellent written & verbal communication, presentation, analytical, time management, organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to budget, forecast, interpret and act appropriately on financial information
  • Good computer skills, including confidence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and the internet
  • Understanding of the issues facing young people

Desirable

  • Understanding of the current funding environment within the charitable sector
  • Corporate relationship management
  • Ability to think creatively about fundraising ideas
  • Experience of the Raiser’s Edge software
  • Professional fundraising qualification or a willingness to work towards one

Summary of terms and conditions

  • The salary ranges from £22,500 - £24,500 (inclusive of London Weighting) depending on experience.
  • Normal hours will be approximately 35 hours per week, usually from Monday to Friday between 10am-6pm, although there will be the need for occasional weekend and evening work, for which time off in lieu will be available.
  • Leave entitlement is 25 days per annum.
  • An offer of employment would be subject to successful background checks, including two referees and a Criminal Records Bureau check.
  • Because of the nature of the work involved, the post holder is expected to sign a pledge of confidentiality in respect of callers’ information.
  • Unpaid extended leave of up to two months may be taken after three years, as outlined in the contract of employment.
