SUBJECT: 2009-2010Student Success Initiative Grant (SSIG) Application

The application forthe 2009-2010 Student Success Initiative Grant (SSIG)opened ineGrants onMonday, October 26, 2009.

Purpose of Program

The purpose of this program is to provide transitional financial assistance to Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charters during the one post-ARI/AMI school year. For the 2009-2010 school year, funding is provided for interventions for struggling students in grades K-12.

Eligible Applicants

Local education agencies (LEAs)that reported students not meeting passing standards for the first administration of the 2009 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) Reading in grade 3 or TAKS Math in grade 5 are eligible to apply for this grant.

Project Period

Plan for a project starting date of no earlier than September 1, 2009, and an ending date of no later than August 31, 2010.

Deadline to Apply

Eligible applicants must apply through the eGrants system by Friday, November 20, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. Central Time.

How to Apply

Eligible applicants must apply through the eGrants system. In order to apply, applicants must have appropriate Texas Education Agency Secure Environment (TEA SE) access. Applicants who do not have TEA SE access for eGrants should visit the TEA SE webpage at and request access. The 2009-2010Student Success Initiative Grant Application opened in eGrants on Monday, October 26, 2009. Applicants may locate the grant through TEA SE on eGrants as follows:

  1. Open the dropdown list titled “Available Grant Programs in eGrants.”
  2. From the dropdown list, select the entry titled “2009-2010Student Success Initiative Grant Application.”

Reporting Deadlines

Reporting deadlines forthe2009-2010 SSIGprogram are listed in the table below. LEAs that are awarded grants are responsible for meeting all required deadlines.Failure to meet deadlines may result in loss of funds and could cause the LEA to be identified as “high risk.
