ACTion with Communities in Cumbria (ACT)A countywide community development organisation and also the Rural Community Council for Cumbria. Provides information, advice, support and representation for communities in Cumbria specialises in Community Assets, Community Led Planning and group development.
Arts Council National Lottery Project Grants
A Lottery-funded grant programme for individuals, cultural organisations and other people who use the arts and culture in their work. Grants are available for activities which engage people in England in arts and cultural activities and help artists and organisations in England carry out their work. We offer awards from £1,000 to £100,000 to support a wide variety of cultural activities, from museums to dance, literature to theatre, music to libraries and digital to visual arts.
Awards for All/Big Lottery Fund
A variety of programmes, including the open programmes of Reaching Communities and Awards for All are available for projects that improve communities, and the lives of people within them. Open to voluntary and community groups, schools and health organisations, parish and town councils.
BBC Children in Need
Five Small Grants rounds per year - for child focussed projects seeking up to £10,000 (for one year). Three Main Grants rounds per year - for child focussed projects, seeking over £10,000 per year (for up to three years).
Charity Bank
Loans to charities and social enterprises of between £50,000 and £2,000,000 for as little as 6 months or as long as 25 years: for building purchase, repair or refurbishment, working capital purposes, the purchase of specialist equipment, short-term bridging needs perhaps pending receipt of grants, stand-by-needs, perhaps to seal a purchase before fundraising comes in. Also offers savings and deposit facilities.Cumbria Community Foundation
Helps change the lives of the people and the communities across Cumbria for the better by giving grant funding to individuals and charitable organisations. Hold around 60 different funds that will support a variety of projects within Cumbria.
Cumbria County Council
A range of grant funds that are used to invest in communities to bring about a positive and lasting change for the benefit of the whole community. Grant funding is currently available from three separate funds:
- Community Grants - Small grants of usually around £ 1,000 to £ 1,500 or less to contribute towards the set-up of new community initiatives or the purchase of new equipment or refurbishment costs for existing groups
- 0 - 19 Youth Grants - To support projects and initiatives that have a child or youth focus
Cumbria CVS
Provides information, advice, support, training and representation to local groups across the county. Also offers a range of other quality services including DBS disclosures, bespoke training, and event management tailored to your needs.Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioners Funds

Cumbria Youth Alliance (CYA)
Provides a range of support for groups working with children and young people countywide. This includes a fundraising workshop and a regular funding gazette; you can sign up for either of these at this event. We will also carry out basic ‘governance health checks’ to advise if groups have appropriate policies, procedures and support them to update these where necessary. We will also offer SQP Quality Mark for which CYA is the Cumbria franchised agent, to groups who have met the basic minimum standards on all policies and procedures. This helps groups to establish credibility with funders, particularly if they are new or small. These services are free to groups in Cumbria, funded by Cumbria County CouncilCumbria Waste Management Environment Trust
Distributes Landfill Communities Fund Grants and applications must come from community groups or organisations, which are non-profit distributing bodies. Projects must be in a 10 miles radius of Hespin Wood in Carlisle or Flusco Pike in Eden. Consideration will be given if a project is within 10-15 miles of these two sites subject to other criteria.
The normal maximum grant that can be applied for is £15,000 covering up to 80% of the costs, although larger requests for important environmental projects will be considered.
Eden District Council
Eden Community Fund: a community grant scheme to support initiatives that deliver wide community benefit in Eden. Grants are available for community projects and events that benefit residents of Eden within the boundary of Eden District. The minimum grant for projects is £500 and the maximum is £10,000, for events the minimum is £200 and the maximum is £5,000. Applications welcome from community and voluntary groups, parish and town councils, charities and social enterprises.
Francis C Scott Trust
Support charities working in Cumbria and North Lancs. The priority is for projects that support 0-21 year olds from our most deprived communities. Capital and revenue for up to 3 years from £500 - £15,000 p.a. Grants below £4,000 are considered monthly.
Hadfield Trust
Aims to help registered charities, or those with charitable objectives, working in Cumbria. Priorities include social needs; youth and employment; older people; the arts; the environment. Usually one-off grants of £500- £5,000 (average £1,000 - £3,000).
Heritage Lottery Fund
From £3000 to millions; HLF has a range of grant programmes for not-for profit organisations that want to deliver heritage projects. Our definition of heritage is wide, and includes oral histories and community memories; conservation and natural heritage; traditional skills as well as heritage buildings, archives and archeology.Please see our website for examples of what we fund, details of our grant programmes and information on applying for funding.
Tesco Bags of Help Fund
Bags of Help is Tesco’s exciting local community grant scheme where the money raised by the sale of carrier bags is being used to fund thousands of local projects in communities right across the UK. Projects that bring benefit to their community will get the green light – these range from improving community buildings and outdoor spaces to buying new equipment, training coaches or volunteers and hosting community events.Eden Funding Event 26.04.18
