Purpose of Job

/ To provide support, advice, guidance and information to Young Persons in Glasgow who are experiencing or have experienced alcohol/drug misuse.

/ Glasgow

Key Activities

  • To assist in the delivery of the 12 step Minnesota Model of Recovery, offering comprehensive, holistic interventions and strategies including crisis intervention, outreach and community support to effect change to young people (aged 18 to 25 years and over)

  • To work closely with all related agencies, promoting the work of the project, delivering presentations, awareness of alcohol/drug abuse through delivery of training and participation in events and conferences.

  • To deliver presentations to other agencies, promoting the work of the project and awareness of alcohol/drug abuse.

  • To undertake initial assessments and provide appropriate support and guidance to young clients on issues that may be creating difficulties in their lives.

  • To identify causes, effects and triggers of problematic behaviour and strategies to overcome these.

  • To keep abreast of developments in service and legislation relevant to the tasks and responsibilities

  • To ensure the implementation of SCP’s policies on Equal Opportunities, Diversity and Confidentiality.

  • To adhere to the current process/procedures and maintain satisfactory records of the work undertaken with clients.

  • To reflect on own practice through supervision and peer support.

  • To work flexibly with colleagues in the SCP to ensure seamless complimentary delivery of services.

  • To work closely with other statutory/voluntary agencies within the area and maintain effective liaison/working relationships with all relevant agencies.

  • To ensure the targets and aims of the project are met and that the highest possible professional standards underpin the work.

  • To maintain operational systems as required by the project and provide any necessary data/information outputs.

  • To follow local authority child protection procedures at all times.

  • To work flexibly within the agreed number of hours to maintain levels of service provision.

  • To increase awareness of the Young Persons Initiative.

Preferable Criteria

Vocational qualification: SVQ3 or equivalent
Proven experience of working with vulnerable young people (aged 18 to 25 years)
Proven experience in working with the 12 step Minnesota Model of Recovery and Counselling individuals with Addiction issues (drugs and alcohol)
Experience of delivering presentations and training
Experience of assessment work and support planning
Experience in delivering Group Work Sessions and 1:1 support
Experience of supporting Young People at risk of suicide and/or self harm
Knowledge of issues facing Young People
A full current driving licence is preferable but not essential
Experience of working with other statutory and voluntary agencies / developing and maintaining good relationships
