Course Content: This class is designed to teach students the foundations and process of dramatic presentation and evaluation. It will focus on developing skills in imagination and confidence, basic acting technique including vocal projection and articulation, physical performance, and character development. Students will learn the basics of script and character analysis. Students will learn stage terminology, and may work on some technical aspects of play production. Students are required to attend the Fall Play (Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare) and the Winter Musical (Cinderella ), and write a critique of each performance. Students will also be required to perform on Theatre Night as the performance portion of their final for the class. These important dates are listed below.

Grading: TALENT IS IMMATERIAL IN THIS CLASS. The commitment, focus, and self-discipline that are put into rehearsal are the primary factors that directly affect the quality of a performance. These traits will be expected of students on a daily basis. In-class rehearsal time is crucial to the development of the skills we learn in this class. Therefore, 10 class participation points will be given daily. Each incident of off-task behavior during class will result in a reduction of 2 points from this total. Extra credit may be offered to those who wish to make up credit lost during excused absences.
