In this chapter, students will:
- Recognize and visualize mathematical patterns called sequences
- Write recursive definitions for sequences
- Display sequences with graphs
- Use sequences to model growth and decay
- Investigate what happens to sequences in the long run
Chapter 3: Linear Models and Systems(1st Quarter)
In this chapter, students will:
- Review linear equations in intercept form and point-slope form
- Explore connections between arithmetic sequences and linear equations
- Find lines of fit for data sets that are approximately linear
- Solve systems of linear equations
Chapter 6: Matrices and Linear Systems (1st Quarter)
In this chapter, students will:
- Review properties of real numbers
- Graph inequalities on a coordinate plane and solve systems of inequalities
- Write and graph inequalities that represent conditions that must be met simultaneously
Chapter 4: Functions, Relations, and Transformations(2nd Quarter)
In this chapter, students will:
- Interpret graphs of functions and relations
- Review function notation
- Learn about the linear, quadratic, square root, absolute-value, and semicircle families of functions
- Apply transformations – translations, reflections, and dilations – to the graphs of functions and relations
- Transform functions to model real-world data
Chapter 7: Quadratic and Other Polynomial Functions (2nd3rd Quarters)
In this chapter, students will:
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide polynomial expressions
- Find polynomial functions that fit a set of data
- Study quadratic functions in general form, vertex form, and factored form
- Find roots of a quadratic equation from a graph, by factoring, and by using the quadratic formula
- Define complex numbers and operations with them
- Identify features of the graph of a polynomial function
- Use division and other strategies to find roots of higher-degree polynomials
Chapter 12: Trigonometry (3rd& 4thQuarters)
In this chapter, students will:
- Review properties of similar triangles and special right triangles
- Review the trigonometric ratios – sine, cosine, and tangent
- Use the trigonometric ratios and their inverses to solve application problems
- Solve problems using the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines
Chapter 13: Trigonometric Functions (4th Quarter)
In this chapter, students will:
- Identify the relationship between circular motion and the sine and cosine functions
- Use a unit circle to find values of sine and cosine for various angles
- Learn a new unit of measurement for angles, called radians
- Apply your knowledge of transformations to the graphs of trigonometric functions
- Model real-world phenomena with trigonometric function
- Study trigonometric identities
