These engineers support development and operating plans for the asset. They work with other functional groups to determine asset needs, manage capital and/or expense budgets, oversee small project design and construction, and support operational needs. Typical projects could include installation of oil, gas and water production, separation and injection facilities. Facilities Engineers also work on repairs, additions and new installations of tanks, vessels, compressors, pumps, piping, power distribution and computer controls. Facilities Engineers are responsible for various aspects of small projects, including project identification and scoping, estimation of labor and material costs, engineering and design of equipment, preparation of specifications for construction and equipment purchases, contract administration for construction activities, job supervision and planning, cost monitoring, interfacing with plant/field operations, interfacing with various regulatory agencies, and turnover and start-up of facilities. Operational support roles focus on assuring facility integrity, reliability and optimization of production. These activities may include system troubleshooting, facility testing and de-bottlenecking, and technical support for reliability and maintenance programs.
