A.Shop Drawings: Submit a Shop Drawing portfolio showing domestic hot water storage tank, heater, and controls to be used for approval by Architect/Engineer. Each component, variation, model number, and option called out in this Specification is to be clearly indicated in submittal for each item. Shop Drawings not complying will be subject to rejection and resubmittal.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.Qualifications: When a manufacturer's name and model number are specifically listed, it is intended to set a standard and style to be followed. Owner approved equal manufacturers shall meet that intended standard.

2.02 LARGE GAS FIRED WATER HEATERS

A.General: Gas fired water heater shall meet ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1, Energy Efficiency Standards.

B.Heat Exchanger: Mount heat exchanger on a stressfree framework within jacket to be able to withstand the effects of thermal shock.

C.Water Section: Water containing section shall be of the fin tube, 2pass design, with straight copper tubes having copper fins spaced 7fins per inch. Securely roll tubes into glass coated cast iron headers with inspection cover plates for purposes of inspection, cleaning, and repair.

D.Rating: Water heater shall bear the ASME "HLW" stamp and shall be National Board listed for 160psi working pressure.

E.Combustion Chamber: Enclose combustion chamber by high temperature spahlproof refractory, which shall be modular for ease of replacement in sections.

F.Jacket: Construct water heater with a 16gauge, galvanized inside and out, steel jacket protected with an acrylic finish.

1.Diverter: Water heater shall have a builtin draft diverter within the jacket requiring no additional external draft hood devices.

2.Insulation: Insulate water heater with 31/2inches of high density insulation.

G.Pressure Relief: Provide an ASME code relief valve rated for 110percent of BTU input scheduled at 100psi setting. Pipe discharge to 12inches above floor.

H.Operating Controls: Standard operating controls and equipment shall include copper fin tubes, aluminized steel ribbon burners, 100 percent safety pilot shutdown, operating aquastat, electric hilimit, automatic gas shutoff device, automatic main gas valve, manual gas cock, main and pilot gas pressure regulators, master switch with pilot light, and inlet and outlet temperature gauges. System shall meet energy efficiency standards of ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1.

I.Firing Control System: Electronic pilot supervision, spark ignition for pilot, 4second main gas shutdown.

J.Breaching and Stack: Refer to Section 235100, Breechings, Chimneys, and Stacks.

2.03 DIRECT VENTED, EXTRA HIGH EFFICIENCY, STORAGE TYPE GAS FIRED WATER HEATERS

A.General: Gas fired water heater shall meet ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1, Energy Efficiency Standards. Unit shall be an extra high efficiency, condensing type, sealed combustion water heater.

1.Water heater shall be 94percent thermal efficient.

2.Water heater to be factory assembled and tested.

B.Tank: Tank shall be a seamless glass lined steel tank with lining applied after tank construction, approved for a working pressure of 160psi.

1.The spiral wound condensing flue coil shall be coated on the flue gas side with an acid resistant glass lining.

2.Tank shall have a handhole cleanout.

3.Tank shall carry a 3year warranty.

C.Burner: Heater shall utilize a power type burner with a submerged combustion chamber.

D.Rating: Water heater shall bear the ASME stamp and shall be National Board listed for 150psi working pressure.

E.Venting: Provide insulated PVC pipe for air intake. Provide CPVC pipe for exhaust venting.

F.Jacket: Construct water heater with a steel jacket protected with an acrylic finish.

1.Hand Hole: Furnish unit with a hand hole cleanout to permit easy access for cleaning.

2.Insulation: Insulate water heater with high density insulation.

G.Pressure Relief: Provide an ASME code temperature pressure relief valve rated for 110percent of BTU input scheduled at 100psi setting. Pipe discharge to 12inches above floor.

H.Operating Controls: Unit shall have an integrated solid state temperature and ignition control device with integral diagnostics, LED fault display, and a digital display of temperature settings.

I.Neutralizer Kit: Provide a condensate neutralizer tank equal tomanufacturer’s recommendations for each water heater. A condensate drain connection shall be provided in the exhaust outlet. A condensate drain kit shall be provided to collect and drain the flue gas condensate.

2.04 GAS FIRED COMMERCIAL WATER HEATERS

A.General: Gas fired water heater shall meet ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1, Energy Efficiency Standards.

B.Tank: Tank construction shall be central flu baffle design, tested to 300psi for an approved working pressure of 150psi.

1.Tank shall be glasslined and fired to 1,600degreesF for complete fusion.

2.Two or more magnesium anodes shall provide electrolytic protection.

3.Tank shall carry a 3year warranty.

4.Tank shall have a storage capacity of 40gallons.

C.Burner: Heater shall utilize a gravity type, aluminized steel, high capacity, radial port burner.

1.Unit shall have a low silhouette draft hood.

D.Rating: Water heater shall bear the ASME stamp and shall be National Board listed for 150psi working pressure.

E.Breeching and Stack: Provide Metalbestos, or Owner approved equal, Type B, double wall gas vent piping, Model QC, continuous from flue connection on heater to junction with breeching from boiler.

1.Provide tees, caps, support plates, and miscellaneous fittings for a complete system.

2.Parts of vent system shall be listed with Underwriters' Laboratories.

F.Jacket: Construct water heater with a 16gauge, galvanized inside and outside, steel jacket protected with an acrylic finish.

1.Hand Hole: Furnish unit with a hand hole cleanout to permit easy access for cleaning.

2.Insulation: Insulate water heater with 2inches of high density insulation.

G.Pressure Relief: Provide an ASME code relief valve rated for 110percent of BTU input scheduled at 100psi setting. Pipe discharge to 12inches above floor.

H.Operating Controls: Unit shall have an adjustable thermostat to provide a reset of water temperature.

1.Energy saving intermittent pilot shall be utilized.

2.Adjustable thermostat shall include an overheat safety device.

2.05 GAS FIRED POOL HEATERS

A.General: Gas fired water heater shall meet ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1, Energy Efficiency Standards.

1.Pool heater shall be listed and approved by the American Gas Association and the ANSIZ2110.3 Test Standard.

2.Pool heater shall bear the ASME "H" stamp and shall be National Board listed for 160psi working pressure.

3.Pool heater shall operate at a minimum of 89 percent thermal efficiency.

4.Pool heater shall be approved for indoor or outdoor installation.

5.Pool heater shall be approved for throughwall DirectAire Vertical, DirectAire Horizontal, and conventional venting (refer to details on Drawings).

6.Pool heater shall have an independent laboratory rating for Nitrous Oxide (NOx) of 9.9ppm corrected to 3 percent O2.

B.Water Section: The water containing section shall be of fin tube design, with straight solid copper tubes having extruded integral fins spaced 7fins per inch. The tubes shall terminate into a 1piece, lined, cast iron header. There shall be no bolts, gaskets or Orings in the header configuration.

C.Combustion Chamber: The combustion chamber shall be sealed and completely enclosed with ceramic fiberboard insulation.

D.Burners: The burners shall be constructed of Type 310 stainless steel and fire on a horizontal plane.

1.Pool heater shall have an integral blower to precisely control the fuel/air mixture for maximum efficiency.

E.Controls: Standard operating controls shall include a hot surface ignition device with full flame safeguard controls and low temp aquastat for operation as a pool heater. The following controls shall be included:

2.06 SEMI-INSTANTANEOUS GAS FIRED WATER HEATERS

A.Water Heater Package Units: Package units shall be factory assembled to include heaters, pump, wiring to controls, related packaged copper piping, and finished steel base.

B.Qualifications: Heaters shall be design certified and bear the seal of the American Gas Association. Heaters shall be constructed in accordance with the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and bear the appropriate ASME label and stamp. Heaters shall meet ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1, Energy Efficiency Standards.

C.Water Section: Copper coil heat exchanger shall have 2pass extruded integral copper fin construction and continuous water way design.

1.Provide inlet thermometer on each water heater. Provide outlet thermometer on each water heater.

2.Provide magnesium anodes for electrolytic protection.

D.Heater: Cast iron burner shall utilize counteropposed turbulated bronze jets to form a single combustion efficient flame.

E.Breeching and Stack: Provide Metalbestos, or Owner approved equal, Type B, Model QC, double wall gas vent piping continuous from flue connection on heater to 3feet above roof.

1.Provide tees, caps, support plates, and miscellaneous fittings for a complete system.

2.Provide a gravity exhauster on top of the vent stack.

3.The parts of vent system shall be listed with Underwriters' Laboratories.

F.Jacket: Construct water heater with a 16gauge galvanized, inside and out, steel jacket protected with an acrylic finish.

1.Jacket shall be insulated with 3inch fiberglass insulation.

G.Pressure Relief Valves: Provide, on each water heater, an ASME code pressure relief valve set for 100psi and rated for 110percent of the BTU input scheduled.

H.Operating and Safety Controls:

1.Pilot flame failure recognition with a response time of 0.8seconds.

2.Complete mechanical and electrical shutdown in less than 4seconds upon recognition of pilot outage.

3.Combination Energy CutOff (ECO) with 200degree maximum setting and high limit aquastat having a 180degree maximum setting.

4.Intermittent pilot control module that provides continuous pilot ignition (sparking) on natural and LP gas heaters when pilot flame is not detected. Lockout will occur if pilot flame is not detected within seconds. Manual reset of the controlling aquastat shall be required.

I.Gas Controls: Automatic gas shutoff device, automatic main gas valve, manual gas cock, main and pilot gas pressure regulators, and master switch with pilot light.

J.Tests: Unit shall be factory assembled, prewired, and tested.

1.Upon completion of factory tests, unit shall be shipped knocked down with preassembled piping manifolds, pump, and wiring harness.

K.Verification of Performance: System shall be pretested under operating conditions to verify output matches demand.

L.Reset Control and Sequenced Panel: Domestic water heater system shall contain the sequencing controls for up to (8)heaters. Provide contacts for BMS Contractor to interrupt firing of burner until combusting air damper is open.

1.Sequencing controls shall monitor the domestic hot water storage tank temperature and shall fire only the number of water heaters required to maintain 120degree hot water in the storage tank.

2.Panel exterior door shall contain heater firing indicator light, (8)manual heater onoff switches and system onoff switch and lights.

a.On a call for heat, the pump shall start. When flow is proven through a safety flow switch, the burner shall start. When tank is satisfied the burner shall stop, then the pump shall stop.

b.Provide contact for EMCS Contractor to interrupt firing of burner until combustion air damper is open.

3.Panel interior shall contain the sequencer with the throttling range and the reset ratio adjustment.

M.Pumps: Inline pumps shall meet Section 221100, Facility Water Distribution, requirements. Pumps shall be indicated on the Drawings.

2.07 SEMI-INSTANTANEOUS GAS FIRED WATER HEATERS WITH STORAGE TANK

A.Water Heater Package Units: Units shall be packaged in factory to include heaters, storage tank, pump, wiring to controls, related packaged copper piping, and finished steel base.

B.Qualifications: Heaters shall be design certified and bear the seal of the American Gas Association. Heaters shall be constructed in accordance with the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and bear the appropriate ASME label and stamp. Heaters shall meet ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1, Energy Efficiency Standards.
