Front of House Volunteer

This is an outline of what your role with the Society may involve. You will have the opportunity to discuss this in more detail.

Where, when and how often?
The role is situated at the Alzheimer’s Society Central Office - near Fenchurch Street Station.
The role is flexible and we hope you will be able to offer a few hours each week, and provide continuity over a number of months. A suggested pattern could be10am to 5pm, one day a week or two days per week.
How does the role make a difference?
Front of House volunteers assist the Receptionist to provide an efficient administration function, and a positive and friendly welcome for all visitors, staff and volunteers at our central office. The role will also involve supporting the receptionist to answer switchboard calls. The role provides assistance to colleagues and allows the reception and administration to be as effective as possible.
What will I be doing?
•Provide support with receiving visitors and answering telephone calls
•General office duties
•Assisting with stationery and other purchase orders
•Helping with couriers
•Handling post and accepting packages
•Recognising the range of policies and procedures that impact on administration
Is this role for me?
The role may be ideal for you if you:
•Have a good verbal communication skills by telephone and face to face
•Have good IT skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
•Have good literacy and numeracy skills
•Have an ability to volunteer within appropriate boundaries
•Are keen to provide a high standard of service and can prioritise tasks
•Have an understanding of and commitment to confidentiality and data protection
•Are comfortable following policies, procedures and guidance
•Have a basic knowledge of, or willing to learn about dementia and it impact on people
•Are prepared to undergo an induction into the role and attend necessary training and similar learning activities to help you in your role
•Are committed to inclusion, treating people from all backgrounds with dignity.
What do I have to do before I can start?
We will meet with selected applicants do discuss the role further. We will take up two references. You will have an initial induction when you start.
How will I be supported during my volunteering?
You will be supported by the Facilities Supervisor. You will also receive one-to-one and/or group based support. Agreed out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
