FROM THE GROUND UP’S 1st ANNUAL SEMINAR

The company’s First Annual Seminar was held on October 5th here at The Pete Dye Golf Club. We had quite a nice gathering of superintendents coming from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. Gary Grandstaff spoke about MOL products and its uses from a superintendents’ point of view. Dick Psolla spoke about the biotic pyramid regarding microbial activity in the soil and how it affects turf. Dick went an extra half hour in the question and answer segment answering many problematic questions on various topics that were a concern to the superintendents. After lunch, everyone took to the golf course, with their soil probe in hand, for a very enjoyable round of golf and to see what the use of MOL products can accomplish over an 8 year period. They came back totally amazed at the consistency of the turf conditions on greens, tees, and fairways throughout the entire course. All in all it was a very fun and informative meeting. We hope to see you next year!

WEATHER FORECAST

FALL! What a great time of year. Everything is starting to wind down in this part of the country, while other courses in the sunbelt are gearing up for their season.

For the “northern courses”, we have our hands full with leaf blowing, mulching, the “Leaf Rule” as they really start to fall, and that 7 – 10 day period when it seems that there is no way to keep up. On top of that we have fall soil corrections to do, fungicide application for snow mold and all other winter time activities such as tree trimming, drainage, bunker renovation, new tees and a dormant feed. Then we get to look forward to individual State Conferences and Trade Shows, Holidays, the National Golf Industry Conference and Show and early spring to start the whole thing over again. Whew!!

Hopefully, no one will experience the long periods of ice storms and heavy snow that we experienced last year. Just give us a good old fashioned mild winter.

Products In The Spotlight

MICRO-MOL K-MOL

Fall is here and now is the time to be making several applications of MICRO-MOL to help boost root systems and promote winter hardiness while also promoting carbohydrate and root metabolism, stimulating microbial activity, reducing and managing thatch, enhancing cell division, assisting in the formulation of proteins and amino acids, assisting in the production of chlorophyll and prevention of chlorosis. MICRO-MOL will also aide in the assimilation of water and nitrogen in the plant, and act as a catalyst for the enzyme system. Maintaining your microbial population until winter is very important in order to sustain a healthy turf for wintertime.

REMEMBER…

MICROBES ARE ACTIVE EVEN AT LOW TEMPERATURES, DOWN INTO THE 20’S, AS LONG AS THERE IS SUNLIGHT!

Two of our customers, Worthington Manor and Hampshire Greens, experienced thatch reduction even under the snow! Several applications during the fall of K-MOL is very beneficial in assisting the plant during cold stress and helps to provide winter hardiness. It also greatly assists in the translocation of vital sugar in the plant structure.

DID YOU KNOW?

This is the time of year to start thinking of next years’ budget and what you can do to improve your golf course and try to save some money along the way. Do you want to save some money along with improving turf conditions, provide more days with less disruption to play and playing surfaces, provide less stress on the turf and particularly to yourself? You need to consider using MOL products. I may be selling now, but I have spent my entire life on a golf course either as a superintendent, building golf courses, and/or as an architect, and many times all 3 at once. Also for my entire life I have been trying to figure out how to make today easier than yesterday and how to save more money today than I spent yesterday. Are you interested?

FACT: The use of MOL products will do just that for you.

Ø  What if you could eliminate your fall aerification? How much more revenue would you bring in from green fees and/or guest rounds? How much would you save in labor?

Ø  What if you didn’t have to airify fairways but once every 3 years or only 6 fairways per season (3 fairways in the spring and 3 fairways in the fall)? How much could you save in labor, repairs, fuel, and overtime? HOW HAPPY WOULD YOUR MEMBERS AND GUESTS BE?

Ø  What if all you had to do was deep slice or solid tine to relieve compaction and then spray to achieve thatch reduction and control? How much could you save?

Ø  What if less fertilizer was required because nutrients are given back to the plant and soil from the decomposition of the organic matter (thatch) and you could save $10,000.00 - $20,000.00 dollars on your fertilizer budget?

Ø  What if through the reduction of thatch less wetting agents were required, say 50% - 75% less? How much could you save?

Ø  What if a healthy turf required less amounts of fungicides when you sprayed? How much could you save?

Ø  What if you used a product to achieve all of the above items and once you reached your desired level of thatch, you required less product to maintain that level and resulted in more savings by purchasing less product? How much could you save?

All of the above IS possible. I have seen and experienced it myself, along with all of the superintendents that joined us for the seminar. There is another way, an easier way, maintenance that disturbs the golf course less, can add rounds, saves money, and provides great playing surfaces that requires less maintenance.

The use of MOL products has proven this on several courses around the country and many new customers have come aboard this summer and fall.

(Questions and comments from our readers)

We like to hear from our readers. You can submit your comments by e-mailing or contacting your area distributor.

JUST A NOTE

This is for everyone, but particularly for our readers that hale from the Sunbelt areas.

One of our major Landscape customers, K&M Landscaping of Bridgeport, WV has been using MICRO-MOL in all of his sprayings for his commercial customers and having great results with 4 sprayings per season. He has been able to maintain excellent plant health and color and uses less chemicals.

He has experienced one bonus with his sprays. In areas where the spray has hit the flower beds with the MICRO-MOL, the results have been phenomenal! The colors are very vibrant and the blossoms have been huge and abundant. There is one local bank where the flowers are the talk of the town by everyone who drives by. The sales manager at one of the car dealerships has been so impressed with the results on the lawn and flower beds that he has asked to have the same thing applied to his home.

So for all of you superintendents out there with common areas, club lawns and flower gardens; there may be some help.
