You've probably been wondering where the reports were for the Emmy's.
Where were the seating charts? Where were the scoops? What happened to
Mr.Hollywood? Well, I'm fine but my computer was down. Obviously, things
are back in working order
Did anyone see me on the show? I was in an aisle seat during the first
segment. Later on, I was in the section right next to where Conan and Andy
Richter did their bit. It occurred in the aisle to which I was assigned
for filling seats. I haven't watched the tape of the Creative Arts Emmys
or the Prime Time Emmys, so I don't know if I were in any shots.
I'll try to have the seating charts up by Sunday and fill you in on what
happened. The highlight of the day was, once again, getting into the HBO
party at Spago's! That's WolfgangPuck's place in Beverly Hills.

We started our day at the famous NBC studios in Burbank at 9:15 a.m. I was the second person on the crew to arrive. My boss was the last. (Wouldn't life be grand if this were always the case?) It was hot. If you saw the Red Carpet Pre Emmy Show, you heard a couple of references made to the temperature. They weren't joking. It was about as hot as any day we've had this summer. This came to be quite a problem. The NBC guard, yes GUARD, not guardSSSS, had to check everyone in AND inspect all bags. This caused a huge backup. The seat fillers were many (240 of 'em) and the lobby was small. Consequently, the people had to wait outside, in the heat, where there was virtually no shade. Remember, they're all wearing formal attire.
The luncheon was held in the NBC Commissary. Do you remember all those jokes JohnnyCarson told that were based on him eating in the NBC commissary? Two years ago our luncheon was at 20th Century Fox's commissary. Fox's is much nicer and bigger, but, then again, that's the movie Fox, not the TV network Fox. I forgot, last year we had two luncheon's because
Let's get on to The Show! Everything went pretty smoothly. While you were watching the opening bit with Conan and the Osborne’s, I was running back and forth to the side lobby three times for more seat fillers. When they were coming out of the taped intro I still needed two more but I was out of time so I jumped into a seat myself. I was in an aisle seat, on the left, about three or four rows behind BradGarret. I am seen twice in the first segment. Once, on a reaction shot to one of Conan's jokes in the opening monologue and twice, when BradGarret (Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series) won. Because the time I am on camera is so short, if you don't know exactly where I'm sitting, it's hard to spot me.
I thought the Conan falling in love with JenniferAniston and GaryShandling bit was very funny. Off camera, from the stage, Conan was sincerely thanking Jennifer and Brad (like you don't know who her husband is) for going along with the bit.
Do you remember the bit Conan did in the aisle with AndyRichter? That was my aisle. The problem was I had no prior knowledge WHERE this bit was going to occur. I was standing right next to Conan and told him what a good job he was doing, but, in all the commotion to set up for this bit, I don't think he heard me. I thought he was just passing by and whatever he was going to do was farther back in the theater. The floor manager was telling me to move back and I was telling him I had to get seats filled...and the camera is coming up the aisle...and there's 10 seconds till we're out of the break....and I just say to the seat fillers, "Take an empty seat."...5...4..3...2...1...Cue Conan! I quickly jumped into a seat right next to where Conan did the bit.
During one break I passed Oprah as she was being escorted to her seat. I wanted to stop her to get some recognition for working on the Noon News with her at WJZ-TV in Baltimore many years ago. She was the co-anchor and I was an intern for the director of the Noon News. I decided to wait and get it when she delivered her acceptance speech for the BobHopeHumanitarian award. I'm still waiting.
There aren't too many celebrity anecdotes this year but I did ride the parking lot elevator with the blond Trophy Girl (the model who hands the winners their Emmy) on the way home from rehearsal. She was very friendly and spoke with a Swedish or German type of accent. And that was it for our relationship when I stepped off the elevator!
After the show I always like to go out the front door, onto the red carpet, and check things out. Sex and the City's KristinDavis came walking right toward me. I smiled and said, "Hi." She smiled right back and said, "Hi." And that was it for our relationship.
Maybe after many of these two second relationships I'll be able to add them up and say I had one on-going relationship with an actress/model.
What time is it now? PARTY TIME. Remember the embarrassing awkward moment after the Oscars with Debra, a seat filler, and Faith Hill? (OscarReport Archives - 2002 on the Web Site.) Well, Debra made up for it after the Emmys. She got into the HBO party at Spago's. This was three times the size of the HBO party I got into two years ago. I was at the Seat Filler party and couldn't get to Spago's till later. Debra stayed in touch via mobile phone. When I was on my way to Spago's, she told the security guard at the side entrance (which in reality is the main entrance to the restaurant, but for the party, they create a side entrance to access a HUGE tent which is set up behind Spago's) that I was a friend and to let him in. He did and I WAS IN, BABY!
Debra and I walked through the restaurant, which was busy, but not compared to what was going on in the tent. Calling it a tent is so unjust. This wasn't Barnum & Bailey! It's a tent all right, with carpeted floors, and lamps, and plants, and flowers, and candelabras, and curtains, and have I made my point? Just imagine a luxury hotel ballroom and you'll have close to an accurate picture of the party. What you probably can't imagine is the FOOD! It was everywhere. If you were too lazy to go to the several buffet areas (each serving a different cuisine) servers brought it to you. Champagne? It greets you at the door (and I accepted the greetings). When your glass (real glass, not plastic) is close to empty there appears a server, bottle in hand, filling your glass. Don't forget about dessert! There were many choices...too many...but I gave trying them all a shot. Of course, I didn't (couldn't) even come close. I made certain I tried WolfgangPuck's specialty…truffle. Pure heaven!
Not too much celebrity news from the party. I should have left the Seat Filler party a little sooner. CharlesDutton (Emmy last year for directing; this year for acting) was about five tables away from where Debra and I were sitting. He was with his wife and I didn't want to disturb him. Remember, I talked to him last year.
I found out later that West Wing had there own party only a few doors down from Spago's. If I had known that then, I would have tried to get in. It probably was pretty good since they won Best Drama Series. I'll look for it next year.
Well, Mr.Hollywood fans, it's only a few months till the 75th Academy Awards. That's going to be special. See you then!
