Appeal for witnesses to mobile phone theft in Shrewsbury

Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses to a theft in Shrewsbury.

A vulnerable 18-year-old man was waiting at the bus stop outside the Shirehall when he was approached by another man who asked him for the time.The 18-year-old showed him the screen of his black iPhone 4 and the man took the phone out of the victim's hands.

The man then walked away from the bus stop with the iPhone in the direction of Shrewsbury Crown Court before turning into Preston Street.He is described as being in his 50s, around 5ft 8in tall, with short or balding hair and is understood to have been wearing a white jacket that came down to his waist at the time.

Enquiries are ongoing but officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area. Anyone with information should call West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 485S of February 10.

Witnesses sought after car struck by falling tree in Shropshire

West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses to a collision during Storm Doris in which a tree fell onto a car in Shropshire.

A red Ford Focus was being driven along the A49 about a mile north of Church Stretton shortly before 9.30am on Thursday (February 23) when the car was struck by a falling tree.

The front seat passenger - a man in his 80s - was taken to NorthStaffordshireHospital with critical injuries. He subsequently died on Sunday (February 26).

Officers are keen to speak with anyone who saw the incident or who can help with the investigation.

Appeal for information following assault in Shrewsbury

Officers in Shrewsbury are appealing for information following an assault which is believed to have taken place on Beacalls Lane in the early hours of this morning (Sunday 26 February).At approximately 4:50am on the junction with Beacalls Lane and the Dana foot bridge a 29-year-old man is believed to have been assaulted by two white men. The victim suffered a non-life threatening wound to his leg which is thought to have been caused by some form of bladed item.

One man being sought by police is thought to be in his early thirties, bald, six foot tall and was seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.The second man is thought to be in his late teens or early twenties, of a slim build and over six feet tall. He is thought to be wearing a blue hooded top and jeans.

Detective Sergeant Mathew Crisp said:"We know there were a lot of people in the vicinity at the time of the incident given its close proximity to Shrewsbury's nightlife.The victim and the two individuals described were seen crossing the Dana foot bridge towards Castle Street directly after the incident and anyone who may have seen them or the incident is urged to come forward.Similarly anyone who was in the area early this morning may have seen something which could help officers to identify those responsible.’’

"This is undoubtedly a rare and concerning incident for the local area and thankfully the victim in this case was not seriously injured. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the local community that we are doing everything in our power to identify those responsible as quickly as possible and ask anyone with information to come forward to support the investigation."
