We are pleased to announce that the Council of Ontario Drama and Dance Educators, will be developing resource materials to support teachers with the implementation of the Drama and Dance curriculum in the context of inquiry learning. The development of resources reflects CODE’s mandate to encourage and support Drama and Dance in education in Ontario.

Writing teams will create resources to support teachers in the facilitation of student-led inquiry in dance and drama. These resources will be available to CODE members on our website at

Writing teams will develop Full Day Kindergarten, primary (1-3), junior (4-6) and intermediate (7-8) resources focusing on inquiry-based learning.

These resources will be available to CODE MEMBERS on our website at

This package outlines the experience needed, areas of responsibility for Writers and Lead Writers, and application forms for this project. Honouraria indicate the amount that EACH Writer and Lead Writer will receive and reflect the Ministry rate of $300/day for writers and $350/day for lead writers. Writers will be paid once completed resources are delivered to the CODE President by the agreed upon dates.

Active and current members of CODE will be given priority in the consideration of applications for these writing positions. Word processing skills and familiarity with Google Docs are a must.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE in the following areas will be considered for this Project:

WRITERS

Must demonstrate:

 Previous experience with writing projects

 Knowledge of the Elementary curriculum and expectations

 A strong command of written English

 Experience with student-led inquiry

 Knowledge of key current assessment and evaluation strategies as outlined in Growing Success: Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools

 Sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of equity issues

 Sensitivity and awareness of the needs of all areas of the province

 Familiarity with word processing programs and Google Docs

 Experience teaching dance and/or drama an asset, but consideration will be given to teachers of other subjects who have demonstrated considerable knowledge in inquiry-based learning

Lead Writers

Must demonstrate:

 Previous experience with writing projects

 Previous experience leading a team

 Knowledge of the Elementary curriculum and expectations

 A strong command of written English

 Experience with student-led inquiry

 Knowledge of key current assessment and evaluation strategies as outlined in Growing Success: Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools

 Sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of equity issues

 Sensitivity and awareness of the needs of all areas of the province

 Familiarity with word processing programs and Google Docs

 Experience teaching dance and/or drama an asset, but consideration will be given to teachers of other subjects who have demonstrated considerable knowledge in inquiry-based learning

 Strong spelling, grammar, usage and proofreading skills

The RESPONSIBILITIES for each position for are as follows:

All Writers and Review Consultants must attend a 1 day (8:30am - 4:00pm) Work Session on Saturday March 7th, 2015. The session will be held at Kempenfelt Conference Centre in Innisfil. Meals (morning refreshment and lunch), transportation and accommodation will be provided as needed (see page 4 for further details).

All curriculum-linked resources will:

 Align with the revised Drama and Dance curriculum

 Support the elementary expectations (e.g. cross-curricular learning)

 Demonstrate a range of current instructional and assessment practices as outlined in Growing Success: Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools

 Reflect both creative and critical analysis processes; and

 Support ongoing Ministry initiatives related to literacy and numeracy, student success, environmental education, and equity and inclusive education.

All WRITERS will:

 Work with the Lead Writer to draft an action plan for the creation of resources

 Include formative activities (process) and culminating activities (product) as appropriate

 Develop unit support materials (e.g. handouts, anchor charts, electronic resources)

 Cite all sources and obtains copyright or permission to use materials as needed

 Engage in ongoing dialogue with the Lead Writer throughout the writing process and use his/her feedback to make revisions to the resource by the agreed upon delivery date; and

 Complete and send the draft resources to the Lead Writer no later than April 15th, 2015.

All Lead Writers will:

 Work with the CODE President to draft an action plan for the creation of resources and deliver an electronic copy of this action plan by an agreed-upon date

 Engage in ongoing dialogue with the Writers during the writing process and provide feedback and suggestions for revision

 Act as a subject expert to ensure the document is accurate in terminology and theory and aligns with curriculum expectations

 Ensure that the resources developed are free of spelling, grammar and usage errors, are clear and coherent, and are formatted according to the guidelines outlined by the CODE President

 Send the final product to the Principal Writer no later than April 15th 2015.

Honouraria Guidelines:

Writer:$1500 ($300 per day/5 days)

Lead Writer:$1000 ($350 per day/approx. 5 days)

Accommodation (for those whose home address is a minimum of 300 km return from Kempenfelt Conference Centre), and reasonable requests for transportation reimbursement for the work session will be granted according to current Ministry of Education guidelines. Refreshments and lunch will be provided for the work session.
