LOSSIEMOUTH RAFT RACE 2017
On Sunday the 13thAugust 2017, Lossiemouth will be holding its annual Raft Race. Teams consisting of 4-8 people will race their self built crafts along the Lossiemouth East Beach estuary. The event is well supported by the local community and regularly achieves an attendance in excess of 5000 people, proving to be a great day out for the whole family.
This year it has been decided that the race will be in aid of three very worthwhile charities, MFR Cash for Kids, Moray Inshore Rescue and Outfit Moray. Further details about the work carried out by these charities can be found at Annex A.
Attached at Annex B is a copy of everything you need to enter a team into the race, including entry forms, rules and regulations, and sponsorship forms.
I would like to thank you in advance for your time and support in helping this become the most successful Raft Race to date. If you need any further information or have any questions reference the event then please don't hesitate to contact me on the numbers above.
Yours faithfully
Ash Patchett

Cash for Kids is the official charity of Moray Firth Radio and provides a helping hand to disabled and disadvantaged children around the Highlands, Moray and Aberdeenshire. All the money is raised locally and spent locally and goes to children and young people under 18 throughout the region, with mental, physical or sensory disabilities, with behavioral or psychological disorders, living in poverty or situations of deprivation, suffering through distress, abuse or neglect. For more information about Cash For Kids visit their website:
Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation was formed in July 2005 when it became apparent that there needed to be a dedicated rescue service to cover Findhorn Bay and its approaches. The Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) subsequently agreed with the need for a dedicated rescue service and tasked MIRO to extend its coverage to the inshore waters of the Moray Firth between Burghead and Nairn. In August 2005, they launched their first boat, a 5.8m Humber Destroyer. The funds for the boat, named in honour of Findhorn sailor Glyn Whitehead who lost his life at sea in 2003, were raised by the tireless efforts of the original committee. From its base at Findhorn Marina, MIRO operates its Category C Inshore Rescue Boat as part of the UK Search and Rescue (SAR) network, and is tasked to work alongside the RNLI and MCA. Outfit Moray delivers outdoor learning, adventure training and nature exploration programmes to children and young adults throughout the region. Their comprehensive programmes help those who take part to grow in confidence, self-esteem and acquire life skills through challenge and positive risk-taking. Outfit Moray strives to make a positive difference to the lives of others, especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged, and it is their aim to encourage growth mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually to all those who participate in their programmes. 10.Throwing of Missiles. All Raft Race crews are reminded that the throwing of eggs, flour bombs and water balloons is to be confined to the race only. In the past, battles have started during the fancy dress competition and this had led to complaints from residents in the area and parents worried over the safety of their children. Team captains are to ensure that crews adhere to this instruction and keep to the spirit of the event, allowing all spectators and local residents to enjoy the day.
11.The aim of the Lossiemouth Raft Race is to raise money for worthwhile charities and, above all, to have fun.
Good Luck!
