Experience as a translator

Freelance, Barcelona and HobartOctober 1990 to date

Since 1990 I have worked as a freelance translator from Spanish and Catalan into English, and less often from English into Spanish, for one of the largest Spanish-owned pharmaceutical companies, whose headquarters are in Barcelona. My work for them involves the translation of documentation involved in the process of investigation and testing of new drugs, through to regulatory work for presentation to Health Authorities in the EU and the FDA, expert reports, marketing and safety follow-up of drugs already on the retail market. Thus I have worked with documentation from the entireactive substance research, manufacturing and commercialisation process;from early molecular investigation through pipeline projects and all clinical trial phases to sales and pharmacovigilance.

In the early nineties I serviced a French pharmaceutical company over a two year period. Thecompany required the translation of regulatory documentation from French into Spanish to apply for authorisation to market a new drug in Spain, and I organised and led a team of translators whom I had previously selected. The project was a success and the company offered me more work as a result. It was later absorbed by a larger company and requirements then changed.

Since moving to Tasmania in 2003 I have continued to work for the same pharmaceutical company in Barcelona, Spain, and I also do work of a more local and general nature through my NAATI accreditation.
