Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heartbe acceptable in Your sight,O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

August 2016

Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you for the privilege of partnering with you in the education of your child. I am looking forward to this year together at PCA! In addition to teaching middle school and high school English, I will be teaching middle school Bible and Science 6.

It is my desire not only to teach my students the material covered in their text books but also to help them discover what the studies reveal about the Truth of God’s Word in relation to Himself, creation, mankind, moral order, and purpose as they explore their lessons from a Biblical world view. Increasing their understanding of God’s Word, of literature, of grammar, and of science can also strengthen their faith in Him.

I would like to share a little of my background. My parents were missionaries to Liberia, West Africa, for sixteen years. During their time in Liberia, four of my siblings (I have six) and I were born in Liberia, where I lived until shortly before my ninth birthday. I accepted the Lord as my Savior when I was five years old and surrendered my life to full-time Christian service when I was eleven. Although I believed that meant an overseas mission field, God led me into the Christian school class room. As I begin my forty-third year as a teacher, I can look back with joy and wonder to see how God has directed my comings and goings, in the little details as well as in the big events. Deuteronomy 31:8, my life verse, sums it up well: “The LORD is the one Who will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” He truly has kept His promise!

My husband, our daughter, and I have lived in Virginia for the past twenty-two years. This past summer God once more showed His compassion, mercy, loving kindness, and providence when my husband lost his eight-year battle with liver disease. God has held my daughter and me in His arms as He has cared for us through His Word, through family, and through friends. He continues to prove His faithfulness and to keep His promises.

Before moving to Virginia in 1994, I taught in Indiana, in Georgia (where I met and married my husband), and in Florida (where Kathryn joined our family). I have taught high school and middle school English and a variety of other subjects over the years. I earned my undergraduate degree at Tennessee Temple College and completed graduate work at Tennessee Temple University, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Texas, Arlington.

Thank you once more for the privilege of teaching your child.
