RUDDIGORE – SATURDAY 23rd JULY 2016 AT WINTERSHILL HALL, DURLEY, SO32 2AL

On the evening of Saturday 23rd July we are holding our eighth open air theatrical performance by Illyria ( a travelling theatrical company. This year we are again supporting ABF The Soldiers Charity, which supports our soldiers and their families in their time of need, see .

Last year it was Iolanthe, this year it is “Ruddigore”, another Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera. The plot concerns shy young Robin Oakapple who at his own wedding is revealed to be Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd, heir to the ancestral pile of Ruddigore and its attendant curse: that each Lord of Ruddigore must do an evil deed every day or else die an agonising death. Rose his bride is horrified and offers herself in marriage to his younger brother. How will Robin/Sir Ruthven win her back? And how can he avoid perpetrating crimes on a daily basis? When an army of long-dead ancestors emerge from dusty portraits to demand his death might there be some kind of loophole by which he could dodge the curse and marry the girl of his dreams?

It will take place from 6 to 9.45pm in the grounds of Wintershill Hall near Bishops Waltham, the performance starting at 7.30pm. Bring your own picnic suppers, rugs, chairs (waterproofs just in case!), money for the raffle, a party of friends (or just yourselves), and relax in a garden surrounded by lovely trees on a summer’s evening. The performance lasts for 2hrs 15 minutes including a 20 minute interval.

Do please come with your friends to enjoy the evening, and help us support ABF The Soldiers Charity, by returning the form below to me or book online at . Tickets are £20 per person, £20 extra to bring a gazebo, and £10 concession tickets only for members of the Friends of Durley Church. Additional donations are very welcome for this worthy cause. Tickets will be sent out in July and are not refundable.

Yours sincerely

Jamie Balfour
