Keep Wales Tidy
Community Group Insurance Scheme
Peace of mind for community groups and volunteers across Wales
Keep Wales Tidy always promotes best practice and sustainability, and encourages all community groups to take out their own personal accident and public liability insurance so that they, and their members, are fully covered when working independently.
The cost of this insurance can be expensive, so to assist groups, Keep Wales Tidy set up its own Community Group Insurance Scheme[1]in December 2009 and has provided free insurance to over 200 groupseach year.
Many charities in Wales, including Keep Wales Tidy, are currently facing financial cutbacks which has led us to make the difficult decision to start asking more established groups for a contribution towards their insurance cover.
From 21stDecember 2012, until further notice, the scheme will run as follows:
- The basic insurance cover will be FREE to groups formed and constituted in the last 12 months.
- For groups who have been in existence for longer than 12 monthsKWT is asking for a contribution of £50/£35 (depending on joining date)towards the costof thebasic cover (the actual cost is higher than this and will be covered by KWT).
- If any group needs cover for the use of chainsaws or other power tools, then you will be asked to pay the actual additional cost of£55/ £35 (depending on joining date).
- Ifany group needs increased public liability coverthen you will be asked to pay the actual additional cost of£55/ £35 (depending on joining date)..
Keep Wales Tidy has negotiated, arranged and purchased the insurance cover on behalf of community groups; by purchasing up front it enables us to pass on the savings to you. Keep Wales Tidy is also subsidising the cost of the insurance and we are not charging any administrative fees – making it as affordable as possible.Similar insurance schemes from other providers can cost over £220 per annum.
KWT would like to be able to continue to offer this subsidised scheme in the future, but will need to raise in the region of £15,000 in order to do so. Therefore we would be grateful if you would consider making an additional voluntary donation to Keep Wales Tidy to help us provide this service for as long as possible, making sure that the limited resources you have go towards improving your local environment and not on insurance costs.
[1]The scheme is underwritten by Royal and Sun Alliance and available to voluntary and community groups working with Keep Wales Tidy (KWT).
