In groups of three, you will be attempting to answer as many of the following questions as possible. These questions are designed to help you:

  • Learn about the different resources that the LMTC has to offer you.
  • Provide general background related to Medieval and Renaissance life

Use Destiny to find a book titled, The Middle Ages: an Illustrated History. According tothis timeline in the glossary of this book:

  1. What event began the Middle Ages?
  2. What was the last event of the Middle Ages?

Use Encyclopedia Britannica Online to write a definition of the philosophy of humanism.

In the reference section, you will find a series of books titled The Illustrated History of Women. Using different volumes from this series of books, answer the following questions:

  1. What was education was like for girls like in the 1400’s?
  2. Why was kidnapping an important part of love and marriage in the 1100’s?

Have one member of your group join Mr. Ames in watching the Safari Montage film: The Black Death, and answer the following questions.

  1. Approximately how many people died during the Black Plague?
  2. What did people believe was the cause of the Black Plague?

In the reference section you will find an encyclopedia set entitled, Exploring the Middle Ages. Search its entry on medicine and healing and answer the following questions:

  1. What were the four humors?
  1. What was the difference between a physician and a surgeon?

Use Destiny to find a book related to the Italian Renaissance. Use that book to identify four major artists who lived during the Italian Renaissance. List one piece of artwork that each of them created.

Use the HistoryStudyCenter database to answer the following questions about Queen Elizabeth.

  1. When was Queen Elizabeth born?
  1. How old was she when she became the queen of England?
  2. Who was Queen Elizabeth’s husband?

Use Encyclopedia Britannica Online to help determine which of the following was NOT a playwright working in Shakespeare’s time.
