FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT EAP CONSULTATIONS

What happens when I call First Sun EAP?

First Sun EAP professionals are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When you call, you will talk with a Certified Employee Assistance Professional whose primary job is to understand your needs. Our consultants listen, and then ask questions about your situation and your policies in order to provide you with the best guidance for your specific needs. If you are calling about a worker whose performance is a concern, we will ask you questions about his or her performance history. Take a look at our Workplace Referral Form. It is helpful if you can fill this out before calling us so that we can gain the best understanding of your situation.

I feel uncomfortable talking to a stranger about management issues. Do other people use this service?

Companies purchase EAP benefits because they want Human Resources and management to be supported by experts. If you have a challenging situation, calling a First Sun consultant is a good call. It shows that you are making wise use of company resources to do your best job. Everyone needs a little help sometimes in order to be their best. In these times of increasing diversity, knowledge requirements and a heavier workload, it is important to call. Doing so puts you in good company. Over all the businesses we serve, about 10% of the leadership of each company calls to consult with us about common and critical issues. They are people like you, seeking to do the best job they can do.

I’m a team leader; can I use First Sun consulting services to discuss issues about my team?

Yes, we welcome calls from all members of leadership.

How quickly can I reach an EAP consultant?

We have dedicated consultants available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Generally, how long does a consulting session last?

Consulting sessions often last 15-30 minutes, however, our session with you will last as long as it takes for you to get your needs met or for us to determine together how to move forward to the next logical step.

Are consultations conducted over the phone or face to face?

Consultations are generally held telephonically to offer convenience for leaders.

Will the information I share with the consultant remain confidential?

Your confidentiality is important to us. Our records are confidential to the extent permitted by law. The organizations we serve do not have access to them. The law, however, requires First Sun EAP counselors to report child or elder abuse, take appropriate action in the event of a threat of harm to self or others, and to respond to court ordered subpoenas. While EAP consultants reinforce all related policies and encourage a team approach when addressing disciplinary issues, information from consultations is not shared without permission.

What are the qualifications of First Sun EAP Consultants?

First Sun EAP adheres to the highest standards of service in the EAP field. We incorporate the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the international Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) in all that we do. Our consultants complete a rigorous certification process established by the Employee Assistance Certification Commission in order to obtain the designation, Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP). All have significant business experience and training as well as advanced degrees in the human services field.

How much do services cost?

All of our performance consulting services are offered free of charge to you. If you are faced with a trying situation, day or night we are there to help you. Additionally, we are available on a fee-for-service basis to facilitate planning sessions, problem resolution groups, workshops, training or executive coaching.
