Les Pays Francophones

Francophone Countries

Overview: You will choose and research one French speaking country, and will share your findings with the class in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. You will teach your classmates about the country you researched. Since you are only beginning your studies of the French language this project may be presented in English.

You will also create an 8’’ by 11’’ poster about your country that will be displayed in the French classroom or hallway. Choose nice pictures for it, and write the name of your country, and the following statement: “Ici, on parle français”.

Minimal requirements for the PowerPoint Presentation

-Name of country

-Capital

-Location (in the world)

-Governement

-Flag

-Population

-Social facts: religions, ethnies, immigration waves, etc (anything relevant to understand the social organization)

-Languages (Is French the main language or do they have other languages too? Which ones? Who speaks French?)

-Historical facts (For example, why is French spoken there?)

-A Celebrity: choose a Francophone celebrity and introduce him/her (athlete, politician, poet, musician, etc)

-Two famous sights or attractions that a tourist might enjoy (monuments, places, festivals, etc)

You may choose to include more information to make your presentation more detailed and informative.

Your poster and your PPT should be visually attractive. On your PPT, use short sentences and bullet points. Do not write more than a couple sentences. Instead, write the information you want to share on index cards or a paper that you will turn in after your presentation.

Research tips

-A great website to use for this project is the CIA World Factbook -

-Google your country, then find the country’s official tourism website. This will especially be helpful for famous sights or attractions.

-As you do your research, save some nice pictures for your poster.

PROJECT ARE DUE ON FEBRUARY 18.

The project is worth 100 points: PPT (40), Oral/Written notes (40), Poster (20).

You will be graded on your ability to share interesting information with your classmates, your clarity and the quality of your work.
