I write in connection with your request for information, dated 12 February 2010, which was received by Durham Constabulary on 15 February 2010. I note you seek access to the following information:

1. Please provide the total numbers of officers by rank within your force for 2008, 2009, and 2010 (so far).

2. How many of those officers were assigned to response duties in 2008, 2009, and 2010 (so far).

3. How many police officers are primarily based at each station at present, by rank?

4. What are the non response administerial departments within your force at present?

5. How many police officers are assigned to each of these departments at present, by rank?

I am required by the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to handle all requests in a manner that is blind as to the identity and motives of the requestor. Any information released as a response to a request is regarded as being published and therefore in the public domain without caveat.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Personnel and Development Department of Durham Constabulary. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Durham Constabulary.

Please be aware that as at 31st December 2009, a further 87 police officers were assigned to operational support roles, for example, Accident Investigators, Investigative Skills Trainers, Community Safety Officers, Operational Training Officers. These roles are not classed as being Response Duty roles, but neither are they “administerial” roles within the force.
