The Council actively supports schools and leased academies to manage asbestos appropriately and non-intrusive management surveys have been undertaken of all such schools by specialist contractors, the most recent exercise being 2015. Schools and leased academies were written to individually, highlighting any action required by the risk assessment as requiring removal or encapsulation.

Asbestos management courses were offered to all schools subsequently.

If asbestos containing materials (ACM) have been removed or a school or leased academy is planning to remove themfrom buildings, they are requested to notify the LA accordingly.

3. The details of any reported incidents of asbestos exposure in these schools between 2011 and 2016.

The Local Authority is not aware of any reported incidents of the accidental release or escape of asbestos fibres into the air in a quantity sufficient to cause damage to the health of any person during this period.

4. Details of any improvement or prohibition notice served or guidance issued by the HSE in relation to the management of asbestos in schools in your borough in the last 5 years.

The Local Authority is not aware of any HSE intervention in relation to the management of asbestos in any community maintained schools or leased academies over the last five years.

5. The number of school employees (existing and retired staff to include teaching staff, school support staff and caretakers, etc) and ex-pupils that have pursued a claim against you for exposure to asbestos within a school in your borough between the calendar years 2006 – 2016

One claim against Borough of Poole has been received for exposure to asbestos within a school between 2006 and 2016. This claim has been settled and no settlement payments were made.
